Re: [epilepsy] Frustrated

Hi Liz.  My name is Stephen Harrison.
I have Absences, and I have 4 -5 per day.  I live in Lancaster. &
have been to see several specialists, and they have kept changing my tablets.
But what ever they have tried me on, they have never worked on me.  I
take Lamotrigine, Keppra, clonazipam.  So seen as how they don't make any
difference I myself think that I should stay as I am.  That is the way I feel.
I have had a few jobs, and they seem to finnish me.  Due to my epilepsy.  So
I receive benefits now.

How often are your szs? What kind(s) do you have? Do you have an aura
beforehand? Are they long enough for you to get somewhere safe?

I am also a mom, but I'm the one with the epi. I know that my parents are uneasy

about me having szs when I'm alone, but I'm fortunate to have excellent control,

a long aura, and generally have them only at night, so I'm in bed, anyway, and
my hub is with me. I have experienced some alone, and it was scary the first
time, but I'd much rather be alone than have my kids at home. I know what to do.

If you have some kind of "drill" with your parents, where you can show them that

you know what to do and are capable of doing it, they may be more reassured and
more inclined to allow you to be alone while they're gone. If you can call
someone for help once you come to and protect yourself from injury, I think
they'll feel more confident that you can handle whatever happens.

Good luck!

LIZARD :)

In a few months my parents might go to Las Vegas for a military reunion, and
they don't want me to be by myself. I know it's only because they care about me,

but it makes me feel like such a baby. I'm 20 years old! I'm pretty sure that I
can take care of myself just fine. I think my parents are afraid that I will
have a seizure and something horrible will happen, like me falling and suffering

a head injury. They need to realize that there may be a time when I will have a
seizure without them being around. My older sister Jan (she's not really my
sister, but my best friend from college. She's 38) said she would stay with me.
I talked to her about feeling frustrated and she said that if my parents went on

this trip and something happened to me, they would feel a lot of guilt. She was
also telling me that no matter how old a child is, a parent will always worry
(she's a mom to a 13 year old). When I first told Jan of my dilemma, I said, "I
don't need a babysitter". She reassured me that my parents don't think I am a
baby.
