Hi Dada,
Welcome to the group (smile). Has your Dr. said its OK to drive? If so, what about a driving school? If you only have nocturnal seizures (when sleeping), you can get a drivers license that is marked no night driving. I couldn't drive from 1988-2008 because my seizures weren't under control. 4 1/4 years ago I had a left temporal lobectomy and so far, have been seizure free since. I began driving 1 1/2 years after surgery. You are so right about how difficult it can be not driving. Especially if public transportation isn't good in the area.
Have you ever asked family how they feel you should learn how to drive? Since that it is what you want to do to get your independence! Why not say to them "if you where in my shoes, how would you learn to drive if family wouldn't help you"? Also say to them "if you where in my shoes, I would help you". I would be interested in their responses!
Dada, are you working or going to school now? What hobbies do you have to enjoy everyday life? Again, welcome to the group!
