Hi Bruce,
I understand completely what you mean. I have petit mal seizures (temporal lobe seizures)(simple and complex seizures)(absence seizures). There are lots of different types of epilepsy - with that statistically probably MOST people could throw something out during an epileptic seizure, just not people who suffer from Grand Mal (Tonic Clonic)
Some petit mal seizures - the deeper ones, make one just as incapable as someone suffering from a Grand Mal as your brain is just as busy. However unlike Grand Mal the people around you cannot see anything is happening and expect you to be being 'normal'. This i personally find distressing when i have slightly lighter ones as i care about the fact that i am not being normal and either upsetting the people around or myself with my actions.
So i can quite easily throw things out during a seizure and then not even remember. In fact from the perspective of the importance of my brain activity, what happen's to that little piece of paper, my child's toy, that £20 note, is 'not important'. In the same way to the fact that surrounding objects are 'not important' when a Tonic Clonic grabs you i imagine.
So yes Bruce, this is a worry, particularly when we are living lives that hopefully resemble an adult human in charge of its own complex life. I try when i am feeling close... feeling an aura.. to use those times for 'extracurricular' activities no matter how inspired i feel to 'sort everything out cause i can sense its all losing the sort of sense it should have'.
Its not easy living with the hidden aspects of epilepsy but i suspect that this extra awareness we cultivate as part of survival to give us a leg up where some other beings have none.
Much love,
Emily :)
