[epilepsy] Re: Shan met Dr. Mark Sircus in '05, Ancient Minerals & Transdermal Magnesium

No I don't nor have I ever sold any transdermal magnesium product. I am thinking that maybe I should though..........it would be one way to get it cheaper and at wholesale prices.....

You asked about oral........

A study in 2001 indicated that magnesium oxide, an inexpensive magnesium complex included in popular dietary supplements could have a fractional absorption in the gut as small as 4 percent. If one was to ingest the commonly recommended (albeit modest) adult dosage of 300-400mg elemental magnesium per day, this would equate to a usable dosage of only 12-16mg. And yet, realistic absorption rates from oral magnesium supplements are rarely taken into account when dosages recommendations are given.

"Elemental" magnesium is the "amount of magnesium that is available to be absorbed". For example, I buy an oral magnesium product that is 600 mg - 120mg of that is elemental magnesium so only 120 mg is available to be absorbed . That does not mean that you will be able to absorb that much though -how much you are CAPABLE of absorbing will depend on your digestive system. If you have any digestive problems at all including frequent hiccups, acid reflux, irritable bowel disease, Crohn's , etc etc then it will be surprising if you get any magnesium at all. And if you don't have any digestive problems , still the magnesium must stay in your digestive system for 12 hours before being absorbed -if it can.....

You will not be able to get your magnesium levels up using only oral magnesium or even mostly oral magnesium. You can combine oral and transdermal or oral and IVs. This is probably why in studies they have used magnesium injections or IVs mostly . Transdermal magnesium is a fairly new way to absorb magnesium do there are only a few studies which have used it. Personally I think that transdermal is also safer as if your body does not need any magnesium then it cannot be absorbed threw the skin. Though realistically it is so hard it is almost impossible to get too much magnesium except by IV . And with IVs studies have found it safe to get up to 8 to 10 grams in a 24 hour period. Doctors often give at least 2 grams or more in an ordinary or 'everyday' type of magnesium IV. The last IV I had about a month ago was 4 grams in 3 hours. One grams is 1000 mg.

There are a few different brand names of transderamal magnesium - Ancient Minerals is the just the one that is recommended by the IMVA and Dr Mark Sircus. He recommends it because it is the only product he would use for himself, his family and his patients. It is the safest and purest of all the transdermal magnesium brands. They have tested it for metals, chemicals and other toxins. And it is also safe to take internally and use it the mouth to gargle and rub on the gumes.

Ancient Minerals also has a concentration of 35% magnesium chloride in it - you will find that most trans magnesium products have 25% or less magnesium chloride in them. One brand sold by Global Light Network has 30 to 35 % concentration of magnesium chloride and low metals too - but it has a lot of chemicals and other toxins in it most of the time. So many that it is sometimes impossible to use it. It is not quality controlled so sometimes the quality is okay and other times it cannot be used. I have used it and it was good - but then I had to throw out a gallon of it as it caused very painful and itching rashes even on my hands. I can't afford this and agree with Dr Sircus that it is not safe if the quality is not controlled.

There is Pharmaceutical Grade magnesium crystals that water can be added to make transdermal magnesium chloride. There is a brand called Magic Oil that is made from this - and actuall improved on as much as possible. But all Pharaceutiacal Grade magnesium chloride is only 20 to 25% magnesuim chloride plus has relatively high levels of lead and mercury.

Lead and mercury and responsible for many illnesses so I do not recommend it. I won't recommend anything that I would not use myself. Though Dr Sircus says "It is a thousand times better then nothing." - from

If you do a google search you will also come across several websites that sell transermal magnesium oil - they will not have tested it for metals nor chemicals & other toxins however nor do they have a product analysis. Some of then have diluted the transdermal magnesium and don't tell you but sell it at cheaper prices - but in truth since it is diluted it will take a long long time to get any results and in the end will cost you more.....

In the USA , the "official" distributor of Ancient Mineals is LL's Magnetic Clay, Inc. www.magneticclay.com

I learned last week that a company called Swanson's says it sells Ancient Minerals from the Zechstein Sea - I have ordered some as I want to check the labels. They have not certificate of quality and when asked about it say they won't give it out. However, they cannot legally use the official Ancient Minerals label if it is not really Ancient Minerals.

I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease/Bartonella just over a year ago and now belong to 5 groups for Lyme Disease. Lyme Disease makes a person magnesium deficient among other things - in fact many of the sypmtoms of Lyme Disease are the same as magnesium deficiency. A few in every group even get seizures. My point that I am trying to get to here is that the people in Lyme groups know they need to get more magnesium into their bodies or they will not get better, and as transdermal is the most effective and cheapest way to do this , they almost all use transdermal magnesium. It is in one of those groups that I heard about Swanson's as the owner uses it from there - we are checking it out to make sure it is the 'real thing' so to speak, as it is much cheaper at Swanson's for the magnesium oil - though not for the magnesium flakes.

I hope this helps somewhat?

Is there any another brand name that sells this type of thing? Vitamin companies sell Magnesium that's are taken by mouth without this transdermal?, requirement & at a much lower price.
