My daughter is one of the ones that has quit breathing twice. We had to do cpr on her both of those times thanks goodness a retired emt lived across the alley from us and still listenned to the scanner and came running over when I did call 911. When m daughter has done this she is ushually admitted and watched just in case. We have been told by her epitologist and peditrician that it wasn't that she chocked or something like that (several people when we have told them they think she was swallowing her tongue not possible) block the air way yes but not swallow the tongue. They said it was more of her brain not responding at the moment due to the seizure to remind her to breath. At times she and others we know have thrown up and aspirated it into their lungs, or they choke on their vomit that has been an issue before for my daughter also. But the two times she quit breathing her mouth was dry no vomit. And she has recovered we also know some that have
not and some that have died from it.
I guess in a way it just depends on the person and the type of seizures and how bad the seizure is at the time.
I hope that clears my daughter story up a little bit!
Best of Luck!
Elizabeth

Subject: [epilepsy] Re: Some questions
How common is it that people stop breathing when they have a seizure?
That hasn't ever happened to Megan. This makes me think of another
post from a mother who wondered if there was a monitor for her child
at night. There are monitors to make sure babies are breathing, and
if you were afraid your child would stop breathing, I would thing
that you could get something like this, but it would only go off if
she wasn't breathing.
Take care,
Tammy
