Re: [epilepsy] Re: Facing epilepsy from 15 years

Elizabeth,

Since '74 I've had intractable, refractory, idiopathic complex-partial epilepsy. I've never been without having a seizure which I'm aware of every 3-7 weeks, there are plenty more that I'm not aware of. When in a Complex-partial seizure the person is unconscious, and in the period (post-ictal period) that follows the brain while the brain is recovering from the unconsciousness it may be seconds or many minutes until it's fully together.
On June 9, 1992, I had a seizure at the train station, Union Station in Washington, DC. Washington Post 6/18/92 it said,  Amtrak police officials said that I was "infirm". Meaning: weak of mind, feeble, not solid or stable. I guest that's why they attempted to send me to a place referred to as an infirmary (a mental hospital)... I've been though it all and know that it can be bad. When in or a while after a seizure I don't know much.

Aamir,
Im sorry you feel left out or criticised. Epilepsy is NOT a disease! When people will only give you sympathy if you are asking just for sympthy thats one thing but why not make something out of what you have or what you have learned from having this epilepsy? Why dont you educate others about it so that they know so that maybe they can help others with epilepsy. You wont neccessarly be dependant on everyone else the rest of your life. I have seen people make something out of it and help others. It just depends on what you make of it! And yes "others just dont understand" you can't look at epilepsy and only see the negative it not the end of the world.
Elizabeth

Martha/Millie,

Sorry for my such a bad response with you people. I am getting alot frm this community. But you know very well when you have in this disease you will be dependent on others in many ways. you can not drive you cannot go alone. these things hurts that i am not like a
common man and people just give you sympathies.

Amir

Hi. This is Martha. I have TLE. When I have my seizures, I feel very much
alone and out of place after I have had one or two. They leave me feeling
sick, tired, sometimes sore, sometimes paralyzed as I have brain damag too.
This group has been very helpful to learn of all of the people who have
seizures that I may not be able to converse with, but atleast I can email
back and forth with. That does help on the days when I am alone.
