[epilepsy] Re: going on to cepra

Hi Adrian

15 or so years ago I was on 1400mg of Tegretol which had been increased
during the time I was trying out a lot of other drugs. I felt too
drugged up so I, without consulting the medical world, decided to
decrease the dose. I did it really gradually by reducing it by 100mg
(1/2 a tablet) in the spring and autumn, as the clocks went back &
forward (I am in the UK). So I reduced it by 200mg a year. I always keep
a record of when I have seizures so knew that I would be able to tell
over the 12 month period if they had increased. I went from 1400mg down
to 400mg, at 300mg I had a seizure so went back to 400mg. It took me 5
years to lose those 1000mg but proves that I was being overdosed.
I guess as I get older and my lifestyle changes things will need to be
reviewed, but the specialist said he no longer needed to see me as I had
found a good balance of medication.
