[epilepsy] Re: Sick more often since diagnosis

I used to love school till they found my seizure disorder then my nursing program that I worked so hard at was pulled(I was 3 months from graduating from a technical school 2 year program)This all went down my sr year of high school .I never even tried to find a nurses aid job because I felt like a failure .Stigma is going to be something to watch out for!!

I think part of the problem was that the meds I was on made me so draggy and slow that I never had the nerve to stand up for myself. That probably wasn't the whole reason, but I'm sure that was at least part of it. By my sophomore or junior year, though, the teasing let up quite a bit, partly because I was an upperclassmen and earned the respect that went along with it, and (I think) because the students were a little more well-informed about my condition (having a seizure in band class was an eye-opener for a lot of them, I'm sure).

School phobia is a real possibility and her feeling sick can be real and still be a part of that. I would first make sure that these problems aren't caused by her meeds or some other aspect of her epilepsy first, though.
