Re: [fast5] gluten free was "Beer Fast" Re: EODD

Yes! Life is getting easier! I've noticed that in the last 10 years or so, it's gotten massively easier to have gluten issues and still eat.

So much has changed since I was a kid, and one big thing is: there is way more acceptance of individual choices in things like food and dress. Remember when the Beatles came out, the national gnashing of teeth as young men let their hair grow past their earlobes? And everyone ate the same foods, more or less, on the same schedule. Nowadays, if you have tattoos over half your body, eat every other day, eat 5 times a day, eat only meat, eat no meat ... people might argue the point, but they aren't shocked or dismayed.

Which is why groups like this can exist, experimenting with new ideas, to see what actually works.

I have to say that it is difficult to be with a group that is "feasting" and not eat ANYTHING. Some years ago, when I just started eating gluten-free, my MIL insisted we come for a birthday celebration at her favorite restaurant ... which served ONLY pasta. There was absolutely nothing gluten-free on the menu, and gluten makes me really, really sick in a very physical way. So I had to sit there for an hour or two, hungry, and watch them oohing and aahing over the food, and try to act interested.

Feeling sorry for myself, I ordered a bottle of wine ...

Took the edge off, anyway. Not saying this is what your friend did, but it might have some relevance ...
