I understand. i expected to have to order salad in these situations but the Spaghetti Factory here has gluten free pasta and 4 or so of the pizzerias have gluten free pizza And pasta and i was surprised....
I have to say that it is difficult to be with a group that is "feasting" and not eat ANYTHING. Some years ago, when I just started eating gluten-free, my MIL insisted we come for a birthday celebration at her favorite restaurant ... which served ONLY pasta. There was absolutely nothing gluten-free on the menu, and gluten makes me really, really sick in a very physical way. So I had to sit there for an hour or two, hungry, and watch them oohing and aahing over the food, and try to act interested.
Feeling sorry for myself, I ordered a bottle of wine ...Took the edge off, anyway. Not saying this is what your friend did, but it might have some relevance ...
