I have lost 60 pounds in 4 months with Fast-5 (scrupulously adhered to!), a 1000-calorie limit per day, and ZERO exercise.
My long-range plan is to continue with this winning combination until I am within 50 pounds of my ideal weight. At that time, and not a minute before, I'll join a gym and add exercise 3X/week.

The 19 hour window is all that is needed to fast. That is what the research shows. This allows you to keep the colon working in good order. Longer fasting times is not what Fast-5 requires. Remember from the book, research has been done showing that the 19 hours is the magic number that really works best. I like to think of it this way. The average person that eats only twice a day, perhaps 12:30
pm and 5:30 pm and doesn't snack between them, they are doing the Fast-5 without knowing it. Please tell me what is wrong with that. Millions of people are doing that. Now, doing the Fast-5 and doing it right is two different things. It appears that a lot of people attempting the Fast-5 lifestyle don't really understand how to do it. They think that if their eating window closes at 6pm, it is ok to drink coffee with creamer and sweetener at 6 am. What they don't understand is that this (even though only a small amount) will cause the glucose level to rise, stopping the fast and keeping the Limbic part of the brain active allowing you to remain hungry. Some people think it is ok to eat a potato chip or two during the fast. Even chewing gum with sweetener will stop the fast. What they don't get is that they can only have unsweetend coffee with no creamer, unsweetened tea with no creamer, diet soda, or water, during the fast. NOTHING ELSE!!!!!!! This is the key to success while living the Fast-5 lifestyle.
Secondly, if you try living on the Fast-5 lifestyle by eating 3000 calories during your 5 hour widow, losing weight will be much slower than if you eat less. I personally have lost nearly 100 lbs in just a few short months by eating about a 1000 calories a day while on the Fast-5 lifestyle and exercising about 4-5 hours a day. (Many people get 8 hours of exercise at their normal jobs).
If you have tried the Fast-5 and you feel it did not work for you, but you really want to lose weight, I recommend you read the Fast-5 book again, very carefully, and make sure you understand the real way to do the Fast-5. I promise you will lose the weight if you do Fast-5 correctly.
I want to say hello to all my fellow Fast-5'ers and wish you all continued success.

Subject: RE: [fast5] Fast-5 and CR/CRON
>>* By googling for Fast-5, I found the following blog entry, which actually
recommends day on / day off approach of fastening (24/24) over fast 5:
http://www.fastingweight.com/ <<the-problem- with-fast- 5.htm
I'm not very good at Fast5, but I've known about it for a very long time now
(2 years?). I've been on and off of it for various reasons.
I'm currently Fast7ing (but managed Fast5 today!).
I'll adress a couple of issues raised in that blog entry.
One is the eating window (5-10pm). That was a suggestion. Many members
have shared their eating window works better for them at other times; do
what's best for you.
This blog states that its better to eat one day then fast the next (Brad
Pilon of "Eat Stop Eat" suggests fasting one 24-hr period per week).
For me, I like regularity. It feels good to me to fast throughout the night
then in to the day (currently breaking my fast at 230pm) and then eat during
my window. I'm learning that if I make the right food choices, I don't feel
that need to stuff myself during the last hour of my eating window, as the
blog suggests. On the contrary, I'm satisfied. And I do this every day.
It would be hard for me to eat 'normal' for one day then not eat at all the
next day (which is why I chose Fast5 over Eat Stop Eat).
Give Fast5 a try.
