RE: [epilepsy] Re: Triggers (long)

Michelle, unfortunate for many here but they suffer from only a moderate
number of SZ's per year. Hopefully Jewel or Liz, our Mods will allow this. I
hope and I'm sure if anyone else finds something that helps them, they too
would be compelled to share it. Gianna has been seizing since 2 when first
sent to ER with nearly constant seizures and then getting only some sort of
control from meds. She is now 7 she has more grand mals in a month than many
here report having had in their life or annually. I hope all will read this
through as it is from my heart and includes info from some sources like an
email from C.U.R.E. we may be familiar with further down.

This past March a friend brought us the Kangen Water for Gianna to try,
however only we tried it. My wife had chronic Constipation issues, it went
away. My Acid Reflux and G.E.R.D. went away as did my Arthritis. I was
afraid of the Electrolytes I heard were in the water and researched on it
for nearly 3 months until I was comfortable enough to allow Gianna to drink
it. We were at our wits end, meds were not working or loosing the ability to
control her seizures then at 40 to 60 GM's per month plus partials. Surgical
testing was still ongoing after one hospital dropped the ball and
transferred her to another. They had to redo ALL prior tests. Within a few
days of starting on the water, the # of SZ's began to drop and or weaken in
strength or duration. After 2 months we had charted approx a 40% drop or
more in the number of Seizures.

While still severely unacceptable by any standard, 18 to 30 GM's per month
was a huge improvement for her and we were in the heat of a California
summer. It is also very dry here which causes more dehydrating effects. With
this drop in SZ's came a better "quality of life" for her since she was no
longer being so devastated mentally by all the SZ's. She then began having
severe side effects from her meds, I think known as Ataxia. We reported what
was going on to her Neurologist. Explained what we had implemented, showed
the SZ charts and the doctor recommended we cut back on the Trileptal. Our 7
year old 50 lb child was on 750mg Trileptal 2x per day plus 200mg Lamictal
2x per day at that time and was a living Zombie.

We believe the Kangen Water was helping to detoxify her brain and we think
the increased hydration, as Ionized water has a 4-6 times smaller water
molecule, it hydrates better, better enabling the meds to work properly too.
This is why we feel once she became detox'ed and properly hydrated she
became "over medicated" even though there was no increase in meds. We were
advised to reduce them. ( She had also always had issues with Constipation
which the Kangen Water remedied within days and we all know Constipation
leads to more seizures so that was an early easy sign for us to see the
water working in some form for her.)

Over weeks and under doctor guidance we have gradually reduced her Trileptal
by 50% down to 375mg 2x per day(5 150mg tabs down to 2.5 tabs 2x day.) with
no increase in seizures. The zombie like state she lived in is gone, as is
the Ataxia, she now speaks in real sentences and is much more emotionally
connected and aware of people, her limited diet has expanded too. We now
have a little girl!

Other than the meds which "Somewhat" controlled her seizures enough for her
to be hospital free I honestly feel this Kangen Water has been the next best
help for her. I am always afraid if I talk about this here I may get booted
for "trying to sell a product" and I hope Liz and Jewel know I am sharing
something that is really helping. We were literally losing our daughter
until she began drinking this Water, so I share this as only possible help
for those that have tried everything else and are in the position we were or
looking for possible answers.

The new neuro we take Gianna to, upon hearing about the Ionized Electrolyzed
water began to ask questions to our surprise. She wanted to hear more about
this, when others just looked at us like we were from Mars or laughed but
our charts don't lie though nor does speaking with Gianna for those that
knew her only months ago. Much discussion came of this along the lines of
the high Antioxidant power of the Water and its increased negative ( -)
electrons which wipe out free radicals and promote better cell function.
This doctor explained she studies on Mitochondria too. (It is this neuro
that also recommended Gianna be switched to the XR Lamictals that really
helped in reducing her night sweats and seizures that routinely came 2-4
hours after meds!) Gianna had only had 8 SZ's in three whole weeks after
this XR switch until getting a cold. We look forward to see how all this
works out within the next few weeks if no more colds come along and maybe we
will see her having 10 or less per month!!!

I have done extensive reading on the effects of Epilepsy and Antioxidants.
High Antioxidant power known as ORP is the most important of the Kangen
Waters 4 key benefits. The ORP, Oxidation Reduction Power of the Kangen
Water is around a -400, green tea's antioxidant value runs about -75, Castor
Oil, the old good for what ails you parental remedy is about -165. Oxidative
Stress in the cell whether in the brain or elsewhere comes from many sources
and when uncontrolled can lead to Mitochondrial Dysfunction (MD) is offered
by a doctor below.

Mitochondria are the "power plants" of the cell. Along with Oxidative Stress
when our cells no longer flush out the waste proteins, acids etc they also
begin to loose their proper electrical charge as well. For those that have
read this far than I suggest you read up on these terms yourself. Google
these words together like:

Mitochondrial Dysfunction Epilepsy .and try: Epilepsy Antioxidants .in a
different search then do: Mitochondrial Dysfunction Antioxidants

People with Autistic issues may want to do the same by replacing Epilepsy
with Autism.

If Ok'd by Liz or Jewel I'll post an informative printed piece by attachment
or hyper link I have scanned in my computer about the Kangen Water which
includes a brief excerpt from a Corrine Allen in Idaho that has just
recently printed.

Also many of us I'm sure get the CURE emails that come out. I read it and
this one Award caught my eye. Go back in your inbox and check Dec 9th from
Michelle for the email from CURE subject titled:

CURE Breaking News - Fall Grant Recipients Announced

In this email were the 2010 Innovator Awards for the year. One Award was
granted to Doctor Manisha Patel who won an award for:

"Treatment of Epilepsy with a Catalytic Antioxidant"

Manisha Patel, PhD University of Colorado, Denver

So I googled her name and came across another very interesting piece from
this Dr. Patel. Those of us here all have heard that each seizure wipes out
brain matter. Keep this in mind as you read this:

From "Free Radical Biology and Medicine" this Abstract from Doctor M. Patel;

Mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress: cause and consequence of
epileptic seizures

Abstract

Mitochondrial dysfunction has been implicated as a contributing factor in
diverse acute and chronic neurological disorders. However, its role in the
epilepsies has only recently emerged. Animal studies show that epileptic
seizures result in free radical production and oxidative damage to cellular
proteins, lipids, and DNA. Mitochondria contribute to the majority of
seizure-induced free radical production. Seizure-induced mitochondrial
superoxide production, consequent inactivation of susceptible iron-sulfur
enzymes, e.g., aconitase, and resultant iron-mediated toxicity may mediate
seizure-induced neuronal death. Epileptic seizures are a common feature of
mitochondrial dysfunction associated with mitochondrial encephalopathies.
Recent work suggests that chronic mitochondrial oxidative stress and
resultant dysfunction can render the brain more susceptible to epileptic
seizures. This review focuses on the emerging role of oxidative stress and
mitochondrial dysfunction both as a consequence and as a cause of epileptic
seizures.

----------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------

(That's my underling above) This Doctor states both as a consequence and
cause, in other words all but self perpetuating? What I read here is that
mitochondrial dysfunction itself may cause a seizure and then the seizure
process as we know cause more cellular damage which in turns produces more
dysfunction . and the cycle continues. Our child has Tuberous Sclerosis and
known tubers in the brain. Some seizures however are originating from areas
with no known tumors or tubers. Just me here wondering BUT is this Mito
Dysfunction possibly a cause of Sz's in some people who have no known cause
or DX? The study of Mitochondria is a relatively new field in medicine.
Again only my hypothesizing but. if we better properly hydrate the brain at
the cellular level to reduce the Oxidative Stress, flush the toxins, infuse
it with massive antioxidants and restore the electrical balance at the cell
level which is what Ionized water reportedly does we can maybe begin to
understand how the Kangen Water might really help reduce or eliminate SZ's.
( For those that really get into it you will see Mito Dysfunction seems to
be at the root of many degenerative diseases.)

I know this is way to much info for anyone to grasp after one reading. I
have been studying and researching this stuff since March. All I'm saying is
for those that have or have family members that have suffered for years with
no major changes, reduction or control you may want to spend some time on
this type or path of research, even just try the google searches mentioned
above. Our friend who first brought and shared the K Water with us for 2-3
months did not know any of this medical stuff. He said simply that he knew
Gianna hated drinking, we thought it was a sensorial issue like many of her
others, and as a family friend he knew this. He said it would help hydrate
her, help her constipation and could only offer the he had "Heard" it helped
some people with seizures. Trust me, we were so panicked at the time due to
her worsening SZ's it did not mater it still took almost 3 months of
research just for us to let her try it. I thought the Electrolytes may cause
more electrical problems / MORE SZ's possibly not less!

Michelle, Our only regret now is that we researched for 3 months b4 allowing
her to drink it. Yes it is a lot of money as you said. Yes it can go on a
credit card and is proven to operate for 15 years minimum already. This
breaks down to just over a $1 per day per household for all the drinking
water and other uses. These machines do a lot more than just make drinking
water too. When one factors in that you won't be buying sodas and bottled
waters etc price concerns are actually turned into savings. For us we
consider it priceless a virtual Godsend based on what it has done for our
family and especially Gianna. For those that read this far, Michelle's post
which this reply is to, was regarding a post of mine posting a 9 minute
video link to Water and Beverage comparisons <http://www.kangendemo.com/>
www.KangenDemo.com which has no links to a product site, its just valuable
info.

If anyone wants or if allowed by our mods I'll copy the December 9th CURE
Email and post it for all to see, just as a reference. Also if OK'd I'll
post the other piece if allowed if I can figure how to get a pdf to work
"online" as I don't think we can attach things. All the above is just my own
writing of course and none of this water stuff is FDA approved, however in
Japan where as a nation they have the longest life span of any people in the
world it is approved and they have been using this technology for 35 years.
People are welcome to email us direct for more info too.
