Re: [fast5] What about when you're sick?

Yes, have the soup. If you have the flu, the goal is to just get over the flu.

BTW, the old "home remedy" of a an infusion of raw garlic, red pepper,
horseradish, and ginger in vinegar (which for me is what I call "hot
sauce": I got addicted to it long ago) really does help kill a cold or
flu. Some wags might say it also will kill your stomach! But I've
never actually gotten a cold while I've had a supply ... I did catch
one last year when I was away and not having it.

And chicken soup has been shown to help at least the symptoms. The
best chicken soup (according to Cook's Magazine) is soup made with
plenty of skin. The skin is what produces the "gel" and it has good
stuff that loosens phlegm too. If you toss a bunch of necks or thighs
or wings, skin on, into a slow cooker with some garlic and salt, let
it cook, then refrigerate it so you can skim off the fat, you'll get
enough broth to last the entire illness. I always add lots of garlic
and poultry seasoning too.

For those of you who are low carb: the fat is hard to digest while you
are sick esp., and also not aesthetic in a cookery sense.
Traditionally it was skimmed off and used like butter on bread, or
used for frying or baking.
