Re: [fast5] "Beer Fast" Re: EODD

An interesting note is that ethanol, when metabolized, turns into acetate.

Acetate, AKA acetic acid, is known to cause weight loss when
taken regularly, as in, a spoonful of vinegar a day. No one seems
to know why though, and I can't say it's had that effect on me:

It seems to help regulate blood glucose levels after a meal and
change how fat is stored. Contrary to popular belief it's not
the "acid/base balance" but the acetate (so the vinegar can have
baking soda added to it and not be sour at all).

Anyway, if that is correct then a glass of wine with a meal
might help blood sugar levels. Or vinegar on a salad. I tend
to make "dipping sauces" that certainly enhance my enjoyment
level of food! Something like:

1. Equal parts, more or less, of honey, vinegar, soy sauce, plus
a dash of hot pepper sauce and a squeezed fresh clove of garlic.

2. The same, but with an added dash of mayo (for putting
on salad or dipping vegies). The mayo makes olive oil dissolve
in the dressing too, so you can add some olive oil and it will
all mix up. Adding some mustard is nice too.

Japanese versions include miso paste, which is easy. Or
wasabi powder, which is also easy. Thai versions use fish
sauce.

It will keep a week or so in the fridge, but the fresh garlic
only tastes "fresh" for about a week. The goal is to balance
the sweet/salty/sour tastes. It makes any ol' food taste
awfully good, and it's cheap to make.

Yep definitely not fasting. That's one creative "fast " tho and at least he wouldn't gain from food. There are studies that show that women who drink regularly ate statistically thinner. That totally seems counter intuitive to how I understand the body to work.....

It's even harder to eat enough calories when your jaw is wired shut!

The handout from the doctor had a list of recommended foods
which were, like, take a regular turkey dinner and run it through
the blender (yecch). So I got most of my calories from Haagen
Daaz with a beer chaser ... so yes, I was intentionally filling
my tummy with fat.

I'm not sure how much beer a person would have to drink to
make up a day's worth of calories, or if alcohol is metabolized
the same as some other calories. I'm pretty sure it doesn't count
as "fasting" though!

that's funny! i'm kinda not surprised you lost weight as its probably kinda hard for most people to feel like drinking all of their calories no matter the form unless they were intentionally filling the drinks with fat, etc.
