Re: [fast5] Re: Cravings and Hunger

(laughing) I have to admit that one of my 'tricks' when I know I'm just ravenous is to cut my window down to about two hours.  There have been times, of course, when those two hours are not a pretty sight, LOL

Honestly, one of the best pieces of advice comes from Dr. Herring in the book - break your fast with a protein shake.  You can get low-carb whey protein powder in almost any grocery store nowadays.  Being that I weight train, I've tried lots of different brands, and when your glucose level is low and stable they're all pretty acceptable from a taste standpoint.  The best I've had though is a brand called IronTek Essential Naturals.  They have a Vanilla Cake flavor and a Banana Cream Pie flavor that are both really excellent.  Aside from that, if you start your breakfast with anything high in liquid it's really helpful.  Soup can be your friend.  :-)

If you get in a lot of protein first though - meat or otherwise, you might find that it takes less of the high-calorie sweet stuff to satiate you.

Instead of diet soda (don't like artificial sweeteners) I have been drinking tea. Either plain or with some stevia. That has really helped.
