Some time ago I was having "low blood sugar" problems, and would practically pass out if I didn't get a meal. Well, this happened when I was in labor with my son, and as I was in the middle of such an episode I said I needed sugar. The doctor took a blood sample and said "your blood sugar isn't low". Huh. Well, I was a little busy at the time, but later, I bought a glucometer and started testing my blood.
Sure enough, at the times I was having "low blood sugar" my blood glucose was HIGH, like 120 or so. Otherwise it was stable at 95. Someone told me that the symptoms were not low blood sugar, but high cortisol. The body pumps out cortisol to raise your glucose level when you don't eat, but it over-reacts, and this causes the shakes and hunger and anger etc.
Then they recommended trying Intermittent Fasting ... this was before Bert's book, so it was named differently. But after a week of purgatory my blood glucose levelled out, and my "normal" glucose level went from 95 to 83.
Also with my handy glucometer, I found that my BG dropped after meals. This is often a symptom of fructose intolerance, which I know know I have in spades. The body thinks sweets have been eaten, but the fructose isn't absorbed well, so there is more insulin than is needed. This also causes gut problems. So now I watch the fructans (see FODMAPS) and fructose, and use xylitol for a sweetener for some things. Konjac with meals helps with the absorption of fructose also.

Hello I started Fast five three days ago and am eating from 13.45 to 18.45 and providing I don't try and cram a days food in the window I think its going to work well, as I eat all day normally and far too much resulting in a fatty liver etc. One thing I have noticed which surprised me is that my blood sugar in the morning is the usual fasting level expected but as I get more and more hungry during the period of reaching my window my blood sugar goes up. I am only drinking water and a cup of black coffee .I am not diabetic but have access to a bg monitor . Can anyone explain ?
Many thanks Paul
