Re: [epilepsy] Topamax

Yes, I could say that topamax does cause more shake in the hands.
Then again what med does'nt?
Mood swings I have always been like like this with meds .
We all have are ups and downs with our meds.
And it does take away some...not all but some of my hunger.

I was on Topamax for over 4 years. However, last year, tow years after
my RTL, my Dr. took my off of it. I was on a cocktail of Topamax,
Trileptal, and Lyrica. Since I was 2 years post surgery, we decided to
reduce my meds by removing Topamax, in hopes of reducing my side
effects. WOW!!! Removing the Topamax was an excellent decision.

I am very med sensitive, and this combination was the best we could find
for me, yet I still had a lot of side effects. AThe following side
effects went away when I went off Topamax, so we now know they were
directly connected to it:

-irritability/mood swings. This was the most difficult side effect to
live with, but it was better then other meds I had previously tried
-foods and soda tasted funny. Soda tasted flat, and I used a lot of
seasoning
-I still have difficulty concentrating, since I had an RTL, but it did
improve some after going off Topamax
-tiredness. I still sleep at least 8 hours a night, but on Topamax it
was an average of 10
-shakiness. I didn't realize how much until I went off of it, mostly my
arms/hands

I have difficulty taking any med, because I always have a litany of side
effects, though I know the irritability and taste side effects are
common with Topamax. Be aware of the mood swing side effect, if you
have it severely you want to let your Dr. know.
