Re: [epilepsy] pregnancy and labor

Have your surgeon and your OB talk to each other. I have hydrocephalus (and have had six brain surgeries for it) and epilepsy and have two kids, 20 and almost 17. It's very possible that second stage of labor (pushing) should be avoided or minimized, so you may need a C-sec or aid in delivery, such as vacuum extraction. I suspect you'll be advised against natural birth, but have your docs discuss it with each other and then with you.

Congratulations and good luck!

Im currently pregnant(20wks) The dr said I have a healthy baby no spinal bifida nor cleft lip and Im on 3 AED meds. Thats a relief! My concern is I had left temporal lobectomy(just a small amount) about 8ys ago done. I was wondering has anyone else had that done(or some sort of brain surgery) and had a child? Im asking because I wonder can I have natural birth or do I have to go through a cesarean probably? I know its hard to determine but due to the surgery or doesnt it matter cus the surgery was so long ago? Im going to ask my Dr next time I go back but hes been out of town so long. Thanks
