Re: [fast5] Re: Why no recent discussions?

Yeah, I tried facebook but it's a huge time-sink and yes, difficult to have a decent conversation. I think some of the more serious discussions have moved to forums though too ... it's easier to categorize by topic. I like the forum idea IF I also get a copy in my email box so I can see what has changed.

Lemon juice in water is a great appetite suppressant, and also it's good for your stomach. Esp. if it has lemon or lime PEEL in it. The peel contains limonene which helps prevent GERD and stomach ulcers. I have come to the conclusion that a lot of my eating had to do with a kind of semi-nausea I was living with. A lot of the stomach upset had to do with stomach irritation due to food sensitivities, drinking tea without lemon, stomach ulcers, and a hiatal hernia.

"Not eating" for a long period of time can make ulcers hurt more. So that became an issue with Fast-5. However, the lemon rind fixed a whole lot of it! Avoiding the foods that bother me fixed a lot too.

What I do is find the really good organic lemons and/or limes and buy a whole bag of them. Slice into fourths, then freeze them on a cookie sheet, and put them in a bag in the freezer. Take one out per day, and use it in my water or tea.

Ginger is super useful too. Get a root or two, slice then, put it in a jar. Cover with sushi vinegar, and you are good to go for a few months. Chop a slice into your food. Eat a slice if you have any kind of stomach upset or get  motion sickness (yes, it works!).

One thing about peppermint ... it's great to make your own tea, and we did that here this year. I have a recipe for something called "Tranquilitea" which is a mix of peppermint, sage, and rosemary. I happen to have all of those in the garden. So I wrapped them into bundles, then hung them with a paperclip on a string near the kitchen (lots of warm air). Crumbled them up when dry.

It's a super-great mix. But it also happens to be really great for stomach upset, like, when someone gets a roto-virus or food poisoning. Bentonite is good for that too.

However, peppermint also exacerbates reflux for some people.

I was disappointed when the conversations in here pretty much ended. I checked out facebook but I found it to be confusing and difficult to have conversations. I still enjoy the fast five lifestyle and miss the support and ideas we would get in here. for example:  marty398, you said you have had a problem with having a drink or something to eat well past your window closing. I read that peppermint is a good appetite suppressant. when I want something to eat or drink after my window closes, I will make a cup of peppermint tea. the article I read said that just smelling peppermint can suppress your appetite and I bought a chocolate peppermint plant and actually make a point to smell it when I start thinking about food! I have even put some of the leaves in water with lemon and lime slices for a refreshing drink since I have given up soda.

of course this won't work if you don't like peppermint or tea but I hope it helps.
