Re: [epilepsy] conscious grandmal seizures

 

By definition if you are conscious you are not having a tonic clonic
seizure. It may appear like a tonic clonic, but it is most likely a
complex partial. Tonic clonic seizures involve the entire brain, so
therefore you have no conscious functioning. A complex partial involved
only part of the brain, so you can have awareness, but by definition you
are not actually conscious. With severe complex partials it is unlikely
the person will remember the event afterwards.

I would question a dr. who claims you can be conscious during a tonic
clonic seizure.
