When I had grand mal szs 50 years ago -- I knew nothing.
I didn't even hear the ambulance siren and woke up in bed in the
hospital. Now I have more like complex partials and I am awake
but can't talk.
I was without szs for 5 years. Then for some reason -- who knows
why? I didn't take my meds for 3 1/2 days. Then this last Aug I had
a grand mal , I live alone, fell, and was for the floor for probably 12
hours. We don't really know. I woke up but couldn't get up.
I live in a retirement center and was to work in the dining room the next day.
The lady at the office came and asked me if I was coming to work in the
dining room. I said "Yes, I'll be there." But I was on the floor and didn't tell
her that. When I didn't come to work -- they came and found me on the
floor.
Of course I landed in the hospital for 24 hours until the Dr. was sure
I could be alone. There were too many Phenabarb for some of the
days and it was decided that my oldest daughter put out my meds out now
and they decided I should take my meds 12 hours apart --8 am-8 pm. She calls
me in the evening and my middle daughter calls me in the morning to see
if I have taken them.
I don't like this but the Dr. thinks it is a good idea-- so I gave in.
He understands I don't like it -- because it is taking away my independence.
I'm very fortunate to have 2 daughters in town. I also have one in Boston.
So you can see that szs are different for each of us and they also change.
I am 81 years old. My legs and arms are weak and laying on the floor that
long did them no good. I now use my walker with a seat more and have trouble
getting out of a chair and car.

Subject: [epilepsy] conscious grandmal seizures
Hi Georgia
I was wondering what do you mean by conscious during her grandmal
seizure. I have seizures that i am unresponsive to anybody but on on the
inside I know exactly what is going on. I have been told mine are non
epiletic conversion disorder seizures. I also have gandmal seizures.
