You may not have liked the results, but that doesn't make the invalid.
Neuro psych tests are very particular, done in very strict adherence to
standards, and scored in very specific ways. They are IQ tests, and
give results in various categories as well as an overall score. They
can be done for several reasons, and in your case it was done to see how
the seizures were effecting your abilities, which they will, and it
seems it showed on the test.
I had a neuro psych test done 2 months before my RTL, and 3 months
after. The numbers had a statistically significant difference. Before
having seizures at all my IQ was above 130. 2 months before surgery I
had an IQ of 124 which means just the seizures alone lowered it. 3
months after surgery my IQ had dropped to 110, which is a statistically
significant drop, meaning it was effecting my abilities in a obvious
way. Just a few weeks ago it was tested at 127, nearly 4 years post op.
If you have the test again, when not post-dictal, you will get a better
score. This will give you a comparision to show what happens after a
seizure. This is a good thing to have. Also, just because he
recommended exercises does not mean he thinks you have a lazy brain,
that just happens to be the title of the book. Everyone benefits from
doing "brain exercises" not just those who have seizures. It helps the
brain remember how to learn, how to do problem solving, how to use
skills most people don't use every day. The same way physical exercise
strengthens the body, brain exercises strengthen the mind.
Take these as they are, don't look at them as a negative thing. Having
the test again will give you good information.
