Re: [epilepsy] Tried to throw us out

I would Google this law in your state and write a letter to the Manager, President of Company and citing EXACTLY what the law says in your state.  Tell them if this happens again, you will take them to court for discrimination AND go to the local papers and trash their sorry a..... name!

Grab a big cup of coffee.

I my service dog and my husband came in to your restaurant on 2/25/2012 at
2:05 PM where I encountered Carmen. No last name given and none of the three
had name badges. Had to ask one of the other employees a young man what
Carmen's name was.

There was about ten plus people ahead of us. The first thing I did when I
went in was grab a bottle of coke She right away saw my Service Dog Rocky a
big German Sheppard dressed in a big black leather harness with a large
stability handle and an orange cape with the star of life medical patch on
the cape.

.As she was waiting on another customer at the register she asked me if that
was all I wanted she would be happy to check me out. (Right away I knew I
was headed for trouble). I said no we also wanted to order food and again I
gestured to the long line ahead of me and waited my turn. She than said that
there was no dogs allowed and he/I would have to leave the store. I told her
very nicely that he was a service and allowed to stay and continued to wait
in line. She than said louder that she could not allow the dog to stay as
they were a restaurant and they had food. I once again was very nice and
told her he was a medical alert dog and allowed to stay by law.

She than came out from behind the counter and came to us inline, getting
very close to me and my dog in a loud voice told me again that the dog had
to leave and that there was no dogs allowed and the other customers may
complain. I told her again nicely that he was a medical alert dog and showed
her patch on his cape. She would not back down and listen to me or my
reasons why I had the right to stay.

She than left and came back in a louder voice told me she had called her
General Manager (no name given)and that he stated that I was not blind so
the dog had to go I was not getting flustered and upset and embarrassed by
her voice, attitude and the scene she was causing in front of so many people
, as more had come in behind as well as the ten or so in front of us. I have
epilepsy and this alone could have caused me to have a seizure.

I told her many times and again that he was allowed by law state and federal
ADA law that we could stay as did my husband. I tried to explain and I tried
to show her my ID, My ID from the school I received him from (Even though
this is not a requirement by any means I was trying to defuse the situation)
and the law card that I carry. She refused to look at them and said for the
inconvenience she would take our order even though there were still a lot of
people a head of us as now there were only two people behind the counter
waiting on customers. In other words rush the dog out the dog. She than
threw her hands up and stalked off.

I had every right to stay, eat and wait for our turn to order from the State
and Federal ADA laws. The other gentleman I told you about waited on us and
Alma checked us out as Carmen refused to look or talk with us again.
