Generics may break down in your system at a different rate than the brand name, which can increase your frequency of seizures. Megan was on generic lamictal for a short time. She would have overdose symptoms in the morning (nausea, dizziness, double vision) because the pills broke down too quickly. Then, before she was even due for her next dose, she would often have a seizure because the active ingredient in the med was already depleted in her blood stream. She has not had that problem with generic depakote, and I think that is because depakote tends to take longer to build up in your blood stream and tend to stay in your bloodstream longer than some of the newer drugs.
