Hi
I don't want to get anyone thinking wrong here but just have to tell my story related to this subject. It is
not a matter of making fun of someone that has seizures, but take a look at it the other way, and in the video
that was chosen with people playing their guitars and singing with a little dancing thrown in, think of it as
just how proud they are of having a goal. I always wished I could play a guitar but can't, these are the
lucky ones.
Should those people have Epilepsy, they should be pretty darn proud of themselves. I can play some musical
instruments but a guitar isn't among them but wish it was. Maybe I should try, the pride and joy of
accomplishing something new you would not believe what that does for you. Beethoven, a great musician is
believed to have Epilepsy. Did that stop him?? NO! Lots of famous people had Epilepsy and it sure didn't
stop them. They had a 'gift' they knew it and they kept on with it until their goal was reached.
I worked with many of whom had seizures of some kind, in a group home with mentally and physically disabled.
There was a few of us staff that we could have what we called a 'party' with say at xmas time etc and boy you
get
them laughing and joking whether it made any sense or not it was the best day of their life and one they were
never liable to forget. They would talk about it for weeks afterwards. We would start by singing whether we
knew how or not and get them singing right along
with us and even get some of them that weren't confined to their wheelchairs up and dancing and boy did they
have fun.
A little fun never hurt anyone!!
I know epilepsy is scary at first and is nothing to smile about, but the sooner you can get past that the
better for you and your seizures.
In Regina, (our nearest large city here in Saskatchewan) they have what they call the Laughing Therapy Club.
It is for people who are ill and need a bit of therapy in their life.
They join this club, all sit on the floor on these big round balloons. Everyone usually comes in quite down
on the day from what has happened, perhaps even depressed and leave as if they had just been given a strong
shot of anti-depressant drugs. The therapist asks them to tell their story and she starts laughing first
thing you know the whole room is laughing so hard and they don't even know when they leave what they have been
laughing at. A world of good was just done. Some doctors even suggest it instead of drugs for those that
have a tendency towards depression of any kind.
Some people think that we have to run to the doctor at every little thing and then complain because something
isn't right. With epilepsy they are or have been told that they will have a seizure because of ........so they
are forever looking over their shoulder waiting for one to come. That is one sure way to bring one on!!
That is just my two cents worth. Also like you say Steve, if you don't like it or it isn't your cup of tea,
just fast forward to the next one. Not everything you read or see is right for you.
Just me
Hugs with a big smile!!!!
Julie
