Hi, Amy.
Just wanted to welcome you. Seizures can be so overwhelming and it's nice to
find new friends and people who can relate.
So far I've suffered from focal motor seizures and haven't blacked out, but I
have felt the fuzziness, dizziness, migraines, weakness. I fell on the back of
my head in 1993 and had seizures for 9 years before anybody could figure out
what they really were.
I don't know if this will help, and you should ask your doctor about this. I
was told to avoid caffeine of any sort, salt, aged cheese, and hot dogs (and I
would assume literally anything with preservatives). And rather than migraine
medicine, I use 1/2 tsp of children's store brand Benadryl, and take a nap. It
causes seizures in some people, though. It also helps me with my pseudo
seizures. I would otherwise probably be on an anti anxiety medication.
I have an enlarged section at the top right part of my brain. I feel terrible
the following day if I do something silly and eat pizza.
I'm getting a seizure study done in a few weeks. At first I thought they were
going to insist I go off my medicine and make me stay up for 24 hours, both
having a huge chance of giving me a very nasty seizure and making me way too
sick, but when I called yesterday to cancel the technician said they were going
to keep me on my medicine, and let me sleep when I was ready and as much as I
wanted. I decided to go. I will be very relieved if they can find anything
to help.
Enjoy your day!
Kathy

Subject: [epilepsy] New here
Hi everyone. I am Amy, from Florida. I have had epilepsy for 22 years.
Recently I had been seizure free (well, grand mal free) for 3 years. Right
after Easter, I suffered a grand mal seizure in my kitchen. It caused me to
fall, hitting my head on the tile floor. I suffered a traumatic brain injury.
I fractured my skull and had 3 areas of bleeding on my brain and frontal lobe
swelling. I had two additional seizures right after that. I had never had more
than one in a day before. I spent a few days in critical condition, then was
moved to a regular room. I then went on to a nursing home for rehabilitation
for 8 days. I am home now with a home health nurse and physical therapist. I
am still having massive headaches and get dizzy quite often. I also developed a
tooth ache after the fall, but it was just a come and go thing, until today and
it is awful. It feels like my teeth are going to pop out of my head. Has
anyone ever had that happen after a seizure? Right now, I am taking 3000 mg of
Keppra a day and 400 mg of Dilantin at night. I have 3 children already and not
planning anymore. I was on Tegretol while I was pregnant, but it stopped
working for me. I have been on many anti-seizure meds over the years and have
always ended up having break through seizures. I believe my doctor is
considering the VNS. My memory is so fuzzy in the days surrounding my injury
and I hate that feeling. My nurse is recommending the ketogenic diet, but not
really as strict as going in the hospital to begin it and such. So I suppose it
would be a modified one. Is anyone using that to control their seizures?
Anyway, sorry to talk to much. I hope to get to know you all soon.
Amy
