ah ha ..... never thought of it that way Kelly. Some people hold all the stress in too, like me for example,
and ends up just like a helium balloon in your body that has to eventually release air somehow some time.
Seeing we are use to having seizures, it does it that way? Would that be fair to say?

 Kelly,

This is an excellent way to put it. I have a client who has a conversion disorder. She was beaten by her
ex-husband near a train, so now whenever she hears a train, she has a major grand mal seizure. She's on a
bunch of meds, and also has a VNS, which seems to help as well.

Psuedo seizures are for all intensive purposes a form of conversion
disorder. I had never put this connection together until recently.
Last year I had a week where my arms didn't work and the drs said it was
conversion disorder. I am not 100% sure why they came to this
conclusion since they ran no tests and only looked at my medical
record. It did go away on it's own after a week with no treatment.
Conversion disorder is caused when you are under extreme stress and your
brain takes is out on your body in some way. Your brain has no way to
release the stress it can no longer handle and does so by shutting down
parts of it's processes in order to get relief. Most often this shows
through the inability to use limbs or talk. Psychogenic seizures are
caused by the same process, in that the brain releases the stress it can
no longer handle on the body. This is caused by a real process in the
brain, yet it is not treatable with medication. If conversion becomes
severe in patient treatment can be done for it, but most often finding
other ways to relieve stress and having people to talk to about your
   stress work.

The longer the stressful period the longer the incidence of conversion,
and the longer the incidence of conversion the more likely it is to come
back again. It makes sense that uncontrolled epileptics would get
conversion because of the constant stress on the brain and the nerve
system, as well as the stress it causes in most peoples lifestyle. Once
of the things that is critical in reducing psychogenic seizures is
stress reduction as well. Once someone finds out they are having them
reducing stress is the only treatment for them. Why do some people get
them and others don't?? Due to the amount of stress one persons brain
can handle vs. the other, and due to the build up of stress in your life.

I think Drs. are not likely to come out and say this is conversion
because conversion goes in your medical record as a psychological
condition, where Psychogenic seizures often do not.
