Re: [epilepsy] I feel finally I have found cyber brothers and sisters--also question re diets

Hi Corinne,

You are making a lot of great changes! Eliminating caffeine, nicotine and artificial sweetners is not easy. I limit myself to one cup of coffee per day, no pop, and drink lots of water. I quit smoking about nineteen years ago. I have diabetes, so I use artificial sweetener. As far as being on a hypoglycemic diet, what do you do? I know that it is important to eat meals and/or snacks at regular intervals and to avoid foods that are high in simple carbs. I think that it is similar to a diabetic diet...needing to keep blood sugar at a consistant level. I have had hypoglycemia in the past. I would get very shakey suddenly if I didn't eat the correct foods on time.

Keep up the great changes in your diet. It sounds like you are already seeing positve changes in your health! Take care.

Terry

Thanks, unseen friends, for all the genuine concern you are showing for me. I am on 250 mg DIvalproex at 9 am, 250 mg at 3 pm on alternate days and 500 mg again at 9 pm. Sz --esp SPS still occur about twice weekly but since I live the life of a retiree on Soc Security Disability (I am 60) and also have arthritis I am home a great deal so just "sit out" the sz. I have just finished P> Murphy's TREATING EPILEPSY NATURALLY and have eliminated the excitotoxins nicotine and caffeine totally as of 2 wees ago--also Coca Colas, and any product containing the artificial sweetener aspartame. This has reduced the frequency of sz from 4-5 a week to 2 a week.
Is any one here on a hypoglycemic diet? I read that may help too but someone from a "live" Ep support group which meets every month says "beware of food fads"--or is such diet valid after all? Please give me feedback on this issue Corinna
