In reply to Steve--and all of you, I have a split of fibers in the right sspheno

squamous region above the inferior orbital fissure. This was not known util a
CT scan was done in 1995 following a suicide attempt with pills. In 1982 at age
32,I was misdiagnosed as bipolar after I had a breakdown over the divorce of my
parents--I had lived at home all my life, even into adulthood as befits the
only child of a strict European family.. The doctors at the NY hospital who
knew me for all of 2 weeks started me on junk like Thorazine and then
Lithium. This was continued after I moved with my dad to FLa. 6 mos later. and
went on even after the CT scan, to which the psychiatrists did not pay enough
attention and did not refer me to a neuro. In fact, bec I was unconscious when
the CT was done, I didnt even know about it until a new doctor reviewed my case
in 2007.
The irony is that I had shaking spells--SPS without loss of consciousness and
CPS but had not recognized them as sz since I was 13. I thought I was just
shaking in fear of teachers and whenever I did have the CPS wandering around, as

soon as I recovered Id say I was lost in thought. People would tell me sometimes

that I had misbehaved--explosions of anger or inappropriate remarks--the day
before and I wouldnt remember it but would let them snarl and reproach and even
"punish" me just to get the incident over and done with and buried. This, I have

heard, points to TLE--temporal lobe epilepsy
THe re diagnosis of epilepsy was arrived at unofficially by the "brand new
psychiatrist "in 2007 . I did not go again for EEgs which were done in 1982 but
proved normal which is not uncommon with standard EEGs done on a TLE pt.However,

symptomatologically everything fits a TLE definition and its significant that
DEpakote and Gabapentin are working both in reduction of sz and "behavioral
tiffs" while the other drugs--Thorazine Haldol Prolixin and Lithium--didnt do
anything. Corinna

According to the WHO-IARC report, volume 45, there are neuromodulators,
tetralins/indans in South Louisiana crude oil (2.4 parts per million) vs none in

Prudhoe Bay crude. Because tetralins are similar to the drug 'Ecstasy' it seems
worth mentioning that it is beyond the computer's predictive power to decipher
the significance of this. The collective genomes of the Gulf of Mexico's flora
and fauna began to mutate just hours into the spill, and simply this 'small'
additional difference renmders most anything learned from Exxon-Valdez in
jeopardy of miscalculation. The extremely important temperature factor also adds

to the complexity.

Thus, there could be retroactive implications due to dispersals, currents, etc.
See Obama's letter regarding the devlopment of synthetic bacteria via Craig
Venter's websites. The Sorcerer sailing into the Gulf to decipher anything risks

being made to look like the horse's rear-end due to the impossibilities,
although we can understand Venter's evoking of the human body louse genome as a
chrestomathy.

Today I toddled into a convenience store in 95 degree heat, (N.
Florida)after walking 2 blocks from a bus stop with severe balance and
co-ordination problems (thanks to a bad interaction last month between Ep meds
and arthritis meds--the doc who prescribed the painkillers is now FIRED and I am
going to a holistic oriented MD). Anyway my aim was to get a Coke to save myself
from dehydration. The clerk at checkout was humming a rythymic tune badly and
some delivery boy was pushing a cart right at me. This kind of visual plus
auditory impact is for me a formula for a sz. I felt the aura--a fear sensation
plus objects looking more intense. This was one of the few times I have had an
aura or sz in public. I asked the the girl--"PLease stop humming I am on the
verge of a seizure". She said "A what" even tho' I am sure she heard. I screamed
"SEIZURE!!" and shoved my fingers in my ears to block the aural impact for about
5 seconds. This worked--no sz but when I took my fingers out of my ears she said
"You nearly gave ME a seizure"
IN retrospect, yes I saved myself but was it really a victory if it
generated such ill will? Please anyone on the list have the MERCY to reply
because this is the first time I ever told any "outsider" ie not a doctor or
clergy that I do have epilepsy. HAve YOU ever had anything like this

Corrina,

When my seizures were at their highest point I had so many in public
there was no way to hide them. I have complex partial seizures, and I
had a lot of automations. I would wander around things, stand on
chairs, waves my arms or objects around in the air, repeat the word "ok"
over and over. If people would say anything, which often they did not,
I would simply respond something like: "I have a complex form of
epilepsy which causes me to act oddly while having a seizure. They are
a non convulsive type seizure. I am sure I acted very strangely and I
am sorry if that alarmed you. Think how I feel since I can't control them."

Hi Corrina,

There is absulutly no reason you should feel you can't tell others about you
having epilepsy. Most people that know me no allot about not just that I have
epilepsy, but how having epilepsy affects my life.

Why do you hide your having epilepsy from others?

Do you talk about it with family and friends?

Corrina, what type or medications are you on concerning you having epilepsy?
What kind of seizures do you have? How often do you have them?

Corrina, we would enjoy hearing from you more in the group? How have you been
feeling since you got home? When you think about it now, did telling just that
one person you had epilepsy hurt you in anyway? Hey, you have epilepsy, if
others can't handle it, they have a major problem, not you! Take care, keep a
smile on your face!

Come to think of it Corrina, I had that very same thing happened to me. Being in

the heat, in a large store,

not sure if clerk was humming a song or not, but I was unstable enough that made

her look at me strangely. My

husband was there also and I simply asked her if there was a chair nearby. My
hubby could see that if didn't

sit down quickly he would be picking me up off the floor. He told the clerk the
problem and even though she

said something similar as to her having the seizure not me, I simply laughed
back at her and she clambed right

back in her little shell where she belonged and have never seen anyone be so
helpful in all my life. Asked if

anything she could get me like water or anything...that' s all I needed + the
chair. Course putting me in that

big store with all the people mulling around and is enough to give me a seizure
at the time whether she was

singing or not. That would be all it would take for me.
The way I took her words about her having a seizure, and the smile I gave her
when she did so was all it took.

Was the smile as if 'so you know how I feel ---- GOOD!' Not the way she meant it

of course.
I don't keep anything from anyone who asks or looks strange. As Steve says if
they have a problem it is theirs

not yours.

Corinna,

Welcome to our group.

When I was diagnosed (DX) 48 years ago-- my husband (now ex) and I decided
we were not going to keep it a secret and that we would talk about having EP.
That is a decision I have never regretted. I feel that if I would keep it a
secret --

that would be a heavy burden on my shoulders -- which I don't need.

How long have you had EP? Tell us more about yourself. I was 30 when I was
DX . I had 3 daughters 2, 4, and 6. They are all now in their 50's. Every time
they have a birthday -- I tell them I don't think I am old enough to have 50
year

old kids. LOL

I have been on Dilantin and Phenabarb for over 20 years. My last sz was over
3 years ago and before that it was 4 years. At first I had grand mal szs but
about
20 years ago they changed to something like complex partials. My girls say
my brain is scrambled for a couple days.

Hi Corinna,

It can be difficult to tell others about your seizures. The important thing is
that you were able to do what was best for you. I have for the most part had
good reactions from people when I tell them about my epilepsy. However, my
husband divorced me and I was fired from a job because of epilepsy. I just try
to remind myself that it is their loss, not mine. People who matter will not
have a problem with it. Take care.

i think it is better to inform anyone about having epilepsy...i do.i consider it

a good idea for others to know as then if i do have a seizure in front of them
they can be somewhat (at least)prepared to do something if they are witness to a

seizure.

Hi Jewl,

Take it slow increasing the time and distance of all the exercise you do. You
don't have to over do it so quickly. I mostly drink water, big time! Before
working out I drink allot of water and also drink during and after working out.
I do drink OJ every morning. And, I do eat fruit each and every day. One banana
then mix either an apple, pear or other fruit each day also.

Jewl, why don't you simply explain what kinds of food you are staying away from
in order to lose weight? They need to learn its best for you health. Abd, let
them understand the more you weigh, the harder life is which increases your
seizures.

Another thing that feels good is getting up and out in early morning while the
temperature is still low. Making that a reutine makes it easier to do for allot
of people. Keep up the good work Jewl (smile)! And whike exercising and getting
outside, keep a smile on your face!

jewl
make sure you don't skip meals & even have healthy snacks about 2 or 3 times a
day. Try your best to stay away from soft drinks (if you drink them) & reduce
sodium intake!!!!! Sodium, besides MSG - a lot of sodium is so unhealthy. Do
your best when grocery shopping to find products (seasonings) with low to no
sodium. Of course process foods have a great amount of it cause it helps with
flavor. If you do buy meals like that to have every so often, read up on them
first or if at the store read the labels.

I was on Jenny Craig for about 2 months. The great thing about J.C. is that
they do watch your sodium in take and teach you what's the best products to buy
w/low sodium.
Weight watchers is a great diet - but there processed foods at the grocery
store are full of sodium. My sister asked her doctor about diets and that was
the only thing that he said was not healthy about W.W. was the sodium in there
meals.
Oh don't think I'm recommending diets for you to try. I'm just telling you
about what I've learned when on Jenny Craig, from doctors, etc.
Have you ever used the seasoning called Ms. Dash? Great seasoning and very low
in sodium. they have a web page that tells you all about it. Also has some
really good & healthy recipes.
Then there's the books "Eat This, Not That", "Drink This, Not That", etc. Great
books to have. Provides you with all kinds of information of the correct things
to eat not just at home but at restaurants, fast food, etc.

mrsdash.com
eatthisnotthatbook. com

If you ever what to try something to work out with besides swimming, they now
have some great products that really help.
I have a toning tube. Helps tone the muscle in my arm. I also have a waist
wrap to ware when I walk and work out. I also use dumbbells.
One thing I have not tried working on is excesses for my stomach. I had back
surgery in 2006, then hurt it again. I have on of those Bender Balls. I do use

Mrs Dash,I've had a huge long, long term habit of repeatably drinking two liter
bottles of cola or just cans that I take to work, try to buy caffeine free if its

possible. And continuously eat pretzels every day, which have too much
salt(sodium) on them.I've been hooked to this stuff for 25-40 years.I wonder if
eliminating this can be done.I'd just began to drink water.I hope this can

make sure you don't skip meals & even have healthy snacks about 2 or 3 times a

I do use
it, but not like I should cause of my lower pack.

anything else let me know. but low to no sodium, 3 good meals, 2 to 3 healthy

Julie, are you trying to figure out what your sodium level is? The best way to
really figure this out is to have blood work done. That's what they had to do
for me when my neuro. realized my sodium leveled was very low. All I was doing
was drinking large amounts of water & sleeping.
came home from work on day had a blood level done and that's how he found out
about the sodium.

Now you take supplements for sodium right? have you ever just drank chicken or
beef bouillon (cubes). They're full of sodium. The neuro I had at the time had
me living on those things for weeks. I was only allowed to drink at the most 5
small glasses of water a day.
After a few weeks my sodium level was back up.

I know that what I posted may sound a little hard for some, but I just saw my 60

yr. old brother-in-law have a heart attack last month. My husband & I and my
sis and he get together all the time with friends and we love to cook big meals
& party. Hey we're cajun people, come on now... =) ...but now he can't and
it's due to many things but one big issue is salt/sodium.

Julie I do hope that you really get the answer you need.

take care & enjoy the wkend =)

Hi Jewl,

Have you tried drinking sparkling water? I've been drinking Pelligrino with a

twist of fresh lime. It's very refreshing! I have also mixed it with juice and

that is refeshing too. I want to lose twenty pounds, so I know what you are

going through. Take care.

I had lost 23 pounds before we moved to Georgia back in Oct 2009 but his parents

Now I am going to lose it all again and this time keep it off.

First thing is to ditch the Coke. Not an easy thing to stop drinking.

I hate the taste of water, it is so bland and does not quench my thirst in the

Wish me luck, I will keep you informed.

Mrs Dash,I've had a huge long, long term habit of repeatably drinking two liter
bottles of cola or just cans that I take to work, try to buy caffeine free if its

possible. And continuously eat pretzels every day, which have too much
salt(sodium) on them.I've been hooked to this stuff for 25-40 years.I wonder if
eliminating this can be done.I'd just began to drink water.I hope this can
reduce seizures.Tim Baldwin

make sure you don't skip meals & even have healthy snacks about 2 or 3 times a

Provides you with all kinds of information of the correct things
to eat not just at home but at restaurants, fast food, etc.

eatthisnotthatbook.

I do use
it, but not like I should cause of my lower pack.

anything else let me know. but low to no sodium, 3 good meals, 2 to 3 healthy
snacks (fruits & veg.), and exercises 3 time a week or every day really
works!!!! oh and a lot of reading up. you don't need to buy books, surf the
web for info.

and if you want to buy books I really recommended just buying off the Internet
then city stores unless it's a used book store or they're it's on sell. my
sister just spent over $150 on healthy eating. I got on amazon found the same
books for great princess.

I wish you all the best =)

Jim....that is a good start. Besides you don't want to loose it all overnight,
that is the wrong way to do it.

Doing it slow and easy like that it becomes more of a daily habit and more
liable to keep it off that way.

Best of luck to all and keep smiling

Hi everyone,

I stay indoors most of the summer because being out in the heat and sun gives me

auras. Is this common or is this just me? Take care.
