[fast5] Re: (Rick - muscles, protein) and Karen

Yeah, kids are tough. I have two boys, one of which is allergic to sesame seeds, and another who has no allergies but is picky. :) I can only imagine how hard it is to find food that kids will eat that has no wheat these days. Will they eat California rolls? They might like helping mom to make them. You can use eggs instead of rice if you'd prefer to avoid grains altogether.

Sample menu for me, OK well yesterday I worked out so it was my carnivore night. :) So I had part of one of those little $6.00 pre-cooked grocery store roaster chickens. After I pulled all the meat off, I threw the carcass in a pot with some water, celery, carrots, onions, salt and spices and made a nice chicken soup. I also fried up some chicken livers. Then I had a cucumber and a cup of coffee with cream.

The night before that I made a HUGE spinach salad with a combo of baby spinach leaves and a mixture of salad greens, radishes, cucumbers, celery, onions, carrots, red bell pepper, tangerine slices, Feta cheese crumbles, sunflower seeds, walnuts, parmesan cheese, Balsamic vinegar, and olive oil. I snacked on apples, oranges, and blueberries. Several cups of coffee and cream.

The night before that I made French onion soup. I was feeling adventurous so I made my own beef stock with some soup bones. I used 6 large red onions and instead of bread I used a steamed cabbage leaf on top and then melted the gruyere and parmesan cheeses on top of that.

I get a lot of my eating ideas from http://www.drmirkin.com/recipes/recipeListType.html . If you do like to eat oats, there is a chili recipe there that uses oatmeal as a sort of meat substitute. There's also a book I have called the "Paleo Diet" that has a wonderful recipe that has become a staple in my house. It's just spinach, ground beef or turkey, eggs, shallots, pepper, and basil, cooked all together like scrambled eggs.

My wife has what I call dietary ADD so I have to constantly come up with different foods every night. :) Just use the old adage of shopping around the perimeter of the grocery store and you'll find lots of good, healthy foods.
