[fast5] Re: (Rick - muscles, protein) and Karen

Thanks Jewel, I'll give that thyroid test a try. Sounds like fun. :) Glad your better now. I was just reading about how they're finding an unusually high incidence of hyperthyroidism among cancer patients. Time will tell if this turns out to be anything substantial. But I do know that I know three women who have had breast cancer and all three of them tested positive for hyperthyroidism.

Karen-

I forgot to mention how I eat. I wrote this down the other day but it wasn't very complete. I don't eat grains. This has made a HUGE difference in the way I feel. I don't drink alcohol anymore (made from grains). Not against drinking, I rather like it. But most alcohols are made from barley, wheat, rice or whatever. Even vinegar is something I use sparingly as it's made from grains. If I can't find something outside, ie: if it doesn't come from nature, I don't eat it. There are no muffin trees or milkshake fountains or french fry formations outside so I stay away from them. Before I grab a handful of nuts, I think of how much work it would take to pick them, shell them, and eat them. I try to think about how hard it would be to eat a kidney bean if I had no access to fire, water, pots and pans. Have you ever eaten raw uncooked wheatberries? Not something you could live on, really.

I was feeling weak and mushy on Fast-5 until I cut out my daily huge spoonful of peanut butter and beer or wine with dinner. Once I cut that out, the weight has just melted off very easily. I suspect there's something in your diet that's adding calories that you're unaware of. (Starbuck's, cream in your coffee, etc). Don't forget, the point of Fast-5 is to cut calories by 20-40% below BMR. I've had to get myself to the point where I JUST eat my one healthy meal and call it quits. Otherwise, I still gain weight. No snacks other than cucumbers, nori, celery, berries, and other watery vegetation. My only supplements are fish oil and Vitamin D during the winter.

I hope that helps some.
