Re: [epilepsy] Re: Seizure While Sleeping

That was the scariest for me as I didn't knowwhat was going on w/the auras, etc until I had a close friend at work tell me I was having a seizure when I was talking nonsense to her and acting drunk

Rhonda,

Did I understand you to say that the Dr. did not give you
any meds until he finds out why you are having them?

I've had EP for over 49 years and I don't know why. I've found it best
to accept that I have EP, take my meds and go from there.

I don't know as there is a sure and fast way of knowing how to
not have szs -- because we are all different. And just because
Dilantin and Phenabarb work for me doesn't mean it will for anybody
else. You just have to try the different meds and see if they work for you.

I've been on Dilantin and :Phenabarb for over 20 years. My last szs
was 5 years ago.

I have never had an aura -- a smell, noise, light, etc to tell you will
have a sz.

Millie

Subject: [epilepsy] Re: Seizure While Sleeping

When I wake up, I am soaked from the shoulders up. It's like someone poured water over my head. I feel as though I have been drugged.
Someone mentioned smelling something that wasn't there. I don't just smell one thing, I have smelled gasoline, wood burning, acetone, lighter fluid. It seems that when I smell these things during the day, I will have a seizure at night. A lot (most)of mine are at night. I also have periods of shaking like as if I get really nervous all of a sudden. Sometimes my left side will go tingley as if I'm having a stroke. I went to the neurologist last week and he said that he's sure I have epilepsy, but now he has to see where they are coming from to know how to treat me. So nervous. I have had seizures since I was abt 16 (almost 30 years) and have hid it from most people. It was only when I had them in front of my husband that he made me get it checked out. Thank God for him. This has all been very confusing and extremely scarey.
Does anyone have any advice on how to not have so many siezures? Is there a trick or something? Sometimes I feel like someone poured ice cold, electrified water down my back immediately before a siezure. Does anyone else get that? I know that sounds strange, but it's the only way I know how to explain it. Like an electrified rod of ice stuck down my spine.
