I am now on the generic and was on the brand name and I see no difference but I am on a higher dosage now of the generic. I now take 450 mg in the am and 450 mg in the pm of the generic and so far....its been two months and no seizures.

Although I have never been on Tripletal at all I do know that many other drugs can act like this also. If I
had been started on a generic and they tried me on Brand...that no matter how long I waited (which would be
for months on end) it seemed like my body was so use to the generic that putting me on a brand name just
wasn't for me. I am on one brand of one kind and generic of the other. It must be just how a persons body
works whether it will accept it or not. Also depending on how long you had already been on the other.
This is just my experience with the meds.

In asking this question, I know that there are a wide range of
opinions. I don't want opinions, I want to know from those who have
made the attempt, how successful or not it was for them.
When I was having active seizures I was animate about not switching to
generic Tripletal since I had been on the name brand before the generic
came out. The drug was only affordable to us because part D medicare
covered, even then it was still expensive. Now, all part D medicare
providers are dropping the name brand from the formularies (the drugs
they cover). That means next year I will have to pay full retail for
the drug OUCH.
In the past I have considered switching, but was still having active
seizures. Now I need to consider this, because it will be difficult to
pay for said drug, and I do not qualify for assistance.
For those of you who have made the switch from name brand Trileptal to
generic, how did it go?
Kelly
