I'm with Qaid,we don't know what went on behind the scenes and The Time and The Family are Prince's "babies". Sometimes it does irks me on some of the things he do but i understand that this is a business and he did get jacked from dealing with WB. I have read things that have been said about P from different members from both groups but I can say I haven't not once read where he retaliated in any way then or now. I am not a professional musician and can't begin to understand the small print on the contracts these artist cut with record companies but I will say this,if the company I work for takes my idea and is making Millions off it and I only collect thousands,yea I think that I'll have some kind of animosity too,and those two groups are his and I don't blame him for not giving up the rights to what ever monies they bring in. Now I don't know whether a deal was discussed between them and P and negotiations broke down or P just out right said no but that part of his life I don't bother with or care to know about,I respect the man his music PERIOD. The clothes,hair and etc. are for fanatics,I have grew up to his music and every important thing that has happened in my life can be related to a song of his somewhere,from my marriage, the birth of my four kids to my Mother's passing a year ago. I too along with Qaid just hope he is right with Jehovah so I can continue to enjoy his work after Jesus returns. Jakester

... in other words as Jellybean said: 'Prince is not the same person he / they knew when they were growing up'. I would think that he would change and mature but, it sounds like he's still beefin' / trippin' on what Warner Bros. and his business relationship with hm went and how it was a sour relationship between them and him. I don't like to give my personal opinions about Prince becuz I'm a fan of the music and the lyrics speak to me in a way that's very profound and spiritually moving. I don't know him personally so I don't say much about that part. I don't feed into the conversations with people on the many Prince Fan / Fam / Enthusiast boards like prince.org or maybe facebook. I pray before he returns to Allah / GOD / Jehovah that he is right with himself, his friends and family.

There was a recent article that came out and I emaled it to the groups but, I found this interesting:

On negotiating with Prince to use 'the Time'

"The rumblings were out that we were making a record," Day explained, "and he reached out to us and sent a cease-and-desist letter."

Lewis, who handled the negotiations, was more diplomatic: "He has his viewpoint; we have ours. We've been the Time since 1981. I don't understand why there would be any issue with that. I'm not trying to challenge someone for something that they believe they created or owned. I don't understand why it has to get to this point and be this serious. So we'll take the high road."

Johnson thinks Prince has changed over the years. "He's not the person that I grew up with since I was 12," the drummer said. "Who has time to be in court fighting about a name you've done had for 30 years? He's a chronic litigator. He has the money to do it; I don't."

Prince owns the rights because he created the groups and did most of the writing and producing of all the music the groups generated. He does this to keep on receiving royalty rights to any music sold and also has the right to perform any songs on his tours. Welcome 2 America tour Prince performed "cool", "the bird" and "jungle love" all time songs but he was credited with the writing and producing on the tracks.
