Did you guys know that Phenobarbitol is actually the drug most commonly used
in people with Epilepsy who are suicidal (especially teens)? 100 x 30mg
pills can put you into a Coma, then stop your Brain from telling your body
how to breathe. I found it in a popular book called Final Exit.
I had suicidal thoughts for being Sexually Fixed as a teenager, not allowed
to Drive, classed Unemployable for Public Safety, and then after finding a
girlfriend I got sent to the Sex Offender Program to learn why it's Wrong
for people with disabilities to be sexually active. Like only Normal people
can do that!
So I wondered why I'm here if everything others can do, I'm not allowed?

[epilepsy] Re:Headache post seizure (light/sound/smell)
After my surgery I found out that being sound, light, smell sensitive is
not uncommon amongst people with epilepsy. It relates somehow to the
how the brain chains the reactions to those tings together, the reaction
is magnified. Migrains can actually be caused by all of these, most
especially light. This is why a dark room, without noise, that doesn't
have weird smells, makes them go away. Heat, whether to hot or too
long, is also and issue for many people with epilepsy, that is why the
cold helps.
I have found a few things that have helped with this.
-Teach everyone in your house not to turn a light on or off in a room
you are in without warning you so you can close your eyes. In this
house we just say "light".
-If we do go to the movies, we make sure to get there early so we are
not walking into a dark room with a bright screen. Having the glasses,
see below, makes it possible for me to go at all.
-I saw a neuro-opthomologist who actually diagnosed me "light sensitive"
and prescribed glasses for it. There were developed by the research
team at the University of Utah, and the tint is called FL-41. They made
an emmediate difference.
-I started buying febreeze, non scented, to remove any smells in the
house. When cooking, if the smell gets to strong, I use it. I use it
more in winter when the house is closed up so long just to freshen the air.
-Don't use any scented products. Avoid candles, plug in's, scented
lotions, and so on. Get scent free detergent and fabric softener. It
takes effort, but it helps.
-The noise is a hard one to avoid. If we go out to eat, we ask not to
sit by the bar or the bus station to avoid those noises. In the car, I
turn on music all the time, the consistent noise helps somehow when
there are other noises around.
-My family has learned not to "clink" there plates, silverware together.
It basically takes really paying attention to the things that make you
react, and trying to avoid/eliminate them. It takes time, but making
the effort can really make a difference.

15-Minute Salmon with Mustard, Dill Sauce - 3.37g Carbs, 0.13g Fiber, 1.79g Sugar
From: The George Mateljan Foundation
Scientific research continues to discover the importance of vitamin D
and omega-3 fatty acids for optimal health. Salmon is one of the best
food sources for both of these hard-to-find health-promoting essential
nutrients. One serving of this recipe provides over 100% for both
vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids. Enjoy this recipe as part of your
Healthiest Way of Eating this week.
Prep and Cook Time: 15 minutes
1/1/2 lbs salmon filet cut into 4 pieces, skin and bones removed
1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
--> Dill Sauce
2 medium garlic cloves, pressed
1 Tbsp Dijon mustard
2 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
1/4 cup chicken broth
1 tsp honey
1 tsp chopped fresh dill
Salt and white pepper to taste
Preheat broiler on high and place an all stainless steel skillet (be
sure the handle is also stainless steel) or cast iron pan under the
heat for about 10 minutes to get it very hot. The pan should be 5 to
7 inches from the heat source.
Press garlic and let it sit for at least 5 minutes to bring out its
health-promoting properties.
Rub salmon with 1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice, salt and pepper. (You can
Quick Broil with the skin on; it just takes a minute or two longer.
The skin will peel right off after cooking.)
Using a hot pad, pull pan away from heat and place salmon on hot pan.
Return to broiler. Keep in mind that it is cooking rapidly on both
sides so it will be done very quickly (7 minutes per inch of thickness).
Test with a fork for doneness. It will flake easily when it is cooked.
Salmon is best when it is still pink inside.
To make the sauce, add garlic to a stainless steel skillet and stir
for half a minute. Add mustard, lemon juice, broth, honey, salt and
pepper. Cook on high heat for a minute to reduce slightly and then
add dill. Pour over salmon and serve.

Re: [epilepsy] Headache post seizure
Hope,
My migraines were not after a sz but about every 2 weeks when I was married.
I haven't had a headache for over 37 years. I've been divorced that long.
I found that the sooner I emptied my stomach -- the sooner my headache would
be over. I too went upstairs where there wasn't so much noise and food smells
and slept until it was over.
I found nothing that would help. If I was working or needed to be some place I
would take aspirin-- but I always had to have the headache.

Subject: Re: [epilepsy] Headache post seizure
I think those post seizure headaches have just got to be the worst ever. Sometimes not even a aspirin of any
form or type will fix them. They are just part of the seizure. The only thing I can do is try a pill, go in a
dark room, and the least bit of noise in the house possible. Even a pin drop could seem like a bomb
explosion. I do know for myself that taking to many of the same kind of pain meds they can then begin not to
work at all any more so do try and keep at minimum. Try an ice pack on the forehead also.
Just go to sleep then and sleep it off. When I have a bad one I know for sure I have to sleep the whole day
away.
I did mention mine to my neurologist and he was about to give me something for them, but refused as knew it
would only be another AED that would have to eventually get off of.
Best of luck Doris and just try things like that to ease them.
