Re: [epilepsy] Re: where is everybody

Jamie,
I don't know if you're paying the full price for your medicines or if you have insurance coverage. My insurer pays most of my presciption medicines. For brand names,I pay $65 for 90 days of it,I never buy a generic but I'd still be responsible for $10 for 90 days of it.I like to pay for their coverage and the low price of meds. The difference of anyone price for generics and brand name isn't worth it.Generic medicines only have a copy of one ingredient that's the theraputic drug in the brand name Keppra & generic version both contain levetiratam, but the total Keppra isn't copied, the generic version isn't even close. The ingredients that enclose it to control to half-life  of Keppra isn't anywhere. This means that generics are compleately out of liver and in the blood system in such a short time,it isn't effective for very long and is a totally wasted in no time. Swartz Pham. which is 80% owned by UCB, both of Brussels, Denmark are the developer and
saler of Keppra.Generic companies just wait till a patent on medicines runs out then they jumped right in any copy the therapeutic drug ingrediet and make money of what a brand name company created. Keppra XR still has the levetiracet in it; but, with eXtended Release its patent is on half-life which has been lengthen to 24 hours, how will a generic copy that when its patent run out (7 yrs.).

That is true, because my seizures have never shown up on one. And I take genric brands on one of my meds for sz.
I have gone to other dr's and they dont even know why I have them.

Jamie,

Just because a sz doesn't show on the EEG doesn't mean she doesn't have EP.

Quite a few of us have better luck with the brand name than generic.

My daughter Megan (9 years old) is the reason I joined. We are still trying to get a diagnosis. First the neuro said looked liked epi. but they have never showed on EEG. SHe only has them at night and the look like simple partial. They come in clusters sometimes as often as every cople of minutes and sometimes 45 minutes apart. She is on generic for Kepra. Each time we would increase the dose we had a couple of weeks without any, omce we had 13 weeks with out an episode. We thought okay we got it but they came back.
Her neuro is referring her to Stanford where they will look at sleep as well as seizures. Hopefully we can get some answers but at least she hasnt been having them night after night any more and her emotional helath and physical health has imporved so much since we started treating her.
Thank you all for this site. It really helped me especially at the beginning and continues to do so.

Sincerly,
Jamie
