Re: [fast5] Tips for SLOWING DOWN

One good habit is to eat in "courses". Pretend you are rich and
have a servant or two. The servant first serves you a nice big
salad, with a vinegar/oil dressing. You eat it leisurely, as you peruse
the financial pages or talk to your spouse or friends.

Next, you get the soup course: a nice broth or creme de something.

Then you get the pork cutlet or stuffed partridge breast.

Then some potatoes au gratin.

Finally, dessert.

Anyway, you get the idea. Plan for courses. Salad/crudites (i.e.
raw vegies) first. Preferably with some vinegar or lemon juice
in there (vinaigrette or dip). That changes how your blood sugar
works when you eat the meal. Also fills up some of the stomach
space, lets you spend some time chewing. Gives you digestive
enzymes too.

Then some protein stuff. Your body has a "stop" mechanism
for protein that it doesn't have for carbs. The best bet is soup
protein, which gets absorbed quickly. Or eggs (omlettes).
Then some steak/fish/tofu, whatever. Eat these with cooked
vegies (green beans, squash, sweet potatoes).

THEN your baked carb/starches. If you can still eat some,
pie/cake even. But do it LAST.

This does 3 things: First, it makes sure you get enough
nutrients, which you need to stay satisfied, and enough
protein. Then, it fills you up on good stuff. Last, it gives
you more appreciation of GOOD food, vs. the junk most
of us eat out of laziness (potato chips, takeout food).

In Spain we all ate like this, one big meal a day that lasted
for a couple of hours, and we all lost weight! The Warrior
Diet emphasizes this style of eating too. It not only works,
it's an enjoyable way to spend a meal. If you don't have
a servant or eating partner, get a good book to read
or a good DVD series to watch and really enjoy the meal time.
