[epilepsy] Re: Grand Mal seizures and the right medicine

Hi Jacie,
I just watched your tape with your son and family and I ache for you. Your family is super special and close and that is so important. I can relate to not knowing sometimes why things happen and having to look forward to getting through something positive too. I am truly over the hill in age, but relate in different ways. I am epileptic since teen age years, and I have a son who is epileptic too and he is an adult too. I began all this when I was 17. About 12 years ago, I was directed to surgery, left temporal, and it completely stopped
all seizures during the day. However, it was the beginning of
nocturnal ones which I still have. I have been taking Lamictal for
years. I take 400mg daily. This drug definately covers grandmal seizures too. It also comes in genetic form which is lots less
expensive, but not all doctors will allow this. I take the
regular Lamictal. Good luck with your change and please keep us
posted on how all goes. Any question, just fill us in.

I dont want to loose any more kids in the future, and so my doctor just switched me to Lamictal. I am slowly winging off of my Tegretol to switch fully to Lamictal. Any advice? also Ive read Lamictal isnt for Grand Mal seizures..is that true?
