I live in WI, and there is currently a bill in the WI legislature to
legalize medical marijuana here, for certain conditions. I think more
and more states are moving in that direction. Alaska, California,
Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico,
Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington all currently have
legalized medical marijuana, and 15 additional states have bills in
their legislatures. Those states are: Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware,
Illinois, Iowa, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire,
New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and
Wisconsin. If all of those states would pass their bills, more states
would allow medical marijuana than not.
In Wisconsin's bill, the part of the bill that addresses which
medical conditions would be covered by the bill is as follows:
"A debilitating medical condition or treatment means any of the
following: 1) cancer,
glaucoma, AIDS, a positive HIV test, Crohn's disease, a Hepatitis C
virus infection,
Alzheimer's disease, Amytrophic Lateral Sclerosis, nail patella
syndrome,
Ehlers−Danlos Syndrome, post−traumatic stress disorder, or the
treatment of these
conditions; 2) a chronic or debilitating disease or medical
condition, or the treatment
of such a disease or condition, that causes wasting away, severe
pain, severe nausea,
seizures, or severe and persistent muscle spasms; or 3) any other
medical condition
or treatment for a medical condition designated as a debilitating
medical condition
or treatment in rules promulgated by the Department of Health
Services (DHS)."
