Assuming the rules haven't changed, you can work for 15 months while applying. It is considered a trial work period, and you are allowed this once during the process, either before or after receiving disability.
But, this was 17 years ago. If you go on to the Social Security website - they explain the process pretty well and you should be able to get answers to most of your questions right on the web site. Or you can call their 800 number too.
I would definitely check into this, so your working doesn't go against you, or your ability to qualify as being disabled enough to work in the future.
I also know a couple people that have continued to work reduced hours and receive their payments, but I have no idea how that goes.......again check the web site, etc.
Good luck.
Love,
jnanda
