Re: [fast5] new member intro

HI
Pain, inflammation and arthritis do NOT "just come with age".

When I was close to your age I too had these problems.  I was also vegan.  I was also very tired all the time -- exhausted actually.  So I tried going off all grains to try to get my energy back.  After three weeks the first thing I noticed was that the arthritis was GONE!.  I suggested my husband try it too and sure enough his arthritis went away.  That was about 12 years ago.  Every once in a while we have tried eating grains again... we found we each had our own threshhold, above which we got the arthritis again.

If you want to try this you would, of course have to give up being a vegan for the duration of the experiment.

I am 66 years old.  I have tried every diet there is in order to deal with health issue.  I have found that you have to be open to try anything and just see what works for you.

By the way, I too tried many supplements to deal with my pain.  They didn't work for me.

hello all, i am paul. i am a 46 yo vegan (i know Rita and Luz had posted a while ago back, if there were any vegans doing fast 5).

quick back story on me is 12 years ago i was 70-80 pounds heavier than i am now (i was about 225 lbs, i only stand 5' 7.5"). i was a full fledged overeater, couch potato, smoker, stoner, boozer and more. there came a point where i decided i had enough of where and who i was (having been overweight since my childhood plus my brain hurt from always being under the influence); i gave up drinking & drugs, started exercising, and eating more mindfully... through activities such as yoga, meditation, martial arts, walking, running and weights, the pounds literally melted off & have stayed off for the past decade and i rediscovered myself along the way.

anyway, new challenges have entered my life over the past 2-3 years: they are arthritis, pain & inflammation as well as cholesterol and prostate problems; guess they come with the turf of my age group and/or perhaps genetic predisposition... i can live with that, what would life be without occasions to rise to?

regarding fast 5, i am on my 3rd month. for the most part, i follow the lifestyle 6 days a week (mon-sat per i work tues-sat) then break for a day (sunday). so far my weight has gone from 154 16%BF to 146.5 14%BF; i'm not as much concerned with the my overall weight but it;s been a dream to get my BF to single digits (even if that means 9.9%).  The main reason i am fast 5'ing, in addition to getting & staying lean, the health benefits, and optimizing energy levels is because i find that the arthritis, pain & inflammation that challenge me is greatly reduced when i don't eat; of course this is a catch 22 because i can't stop eating completely...

this brings me to a question regarding supplements: i'm going to guess that taking supplements that have minimal caloric value i.e. 5 calories or less would be fine to take during the fasting period? :-/

if so, i am interested in taking systemic enzymes and or SAM-e again (i have used them in the past, always on an empty stomach that's how they work best supposedly) to kill the pain and inflammation. also i am interested in taking beta sito sterol for lowering cholesterol and for the prostate (it is also recommended to be taken away from food, too). any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

last, but not least, i'd be glad to answer any questions on what i do for meals, snacks, proteins, the supplements i take (i take a bunch including b12, b complex, coq, multi, glucosamine & msm, and saw palmetto & pygeum bark), and anything else regarding my 20+ years experience as a vegan, etc...
