Megan had horrible experiences on her rather short trial of generic
lamictal. She had major hives, in spite of the fact that she had been
on regular lamictal for almost two years before the switch. She never
had hives from the brand name lamictal. She also had symptoms of too
much lamictal in her bloodstream in the morning (nausea, dizziness,
blurred and/or double vision), and then would often have a tonic
clonic seizure before it was time for her evening dose! It was a
horrible experience for her, as she felt sick every day she was on
it, had hives the whole time and also had seizures when she was
perfectly on schedule with her meds.
My personal advice would be to get the brand name drug if at all
possible. There just seems to be too much difference in the way the
generic breaks down in the body. OTOH, there are people who take the
generic successfully. The only way to know if it would work for you
is to try it.
best wishes,
Tammy
