You are so right Jewl, not about gifts. A few years ago we saw the idea (in an Oxfam shop) of a card you send to someone, which might be (for example) the cost of providing a goat to a family in Africa. Then I got to thinking we could do something like that instead of giving presents to family who either don't need it or want it, but instead we donate to a charity of our choosing. We ask that family do the same for us, no gifts, but a donation to their charity choice.
