Re: [epilepsy] Fundrasing-Go Fund Me.com???

The simple answer is why not try them out with a small test. If that
works then extend the trial.

The complex answer... As far as I see they charge $9 per month to help
you fundraise. Their key business model seems to be
- to use paypal as a donations platform and
- to add social networking tools to help propagate your message.
- to add team and campaign tools

The power of social networking is, imo, a very important tool to help
fundraisers. My strategy with ForJane was to use a blog (based on
blogger.com) as a basis. With a blog you can fully social network
very easily & very powerfully.

Any donations through paypal will incur paypal charges, though for
registered charities these may be reduced.

If this website is worth a look then in my opinion it is whether the
team and campaign tools are of value. Having just come to the end of
our summer events for 2012, I have learnt a lot about supporting over
50 disparate people each wanting to run, swm etc. Some just want to
do their physical bit with no real fundraising whereas others want to
collect online or using traditional sponsorship forms. Some want
anonymity while others are happy spread you message themselves through
their own online and offline networks.

But whatever their agenda they want to be treated with respect, want
to feel you understand them, and want to feel part of a team that's
making a difference.

I failed on some of that measure because I assumed blithely that our
major event "The Blenheim Triathlon" organisation would support teams.
Instead it was an embarrassment. What I mean by this is 8 months
ahead we registered three "teams" of three people and also over 20
individuals. There was no acknowledgement at all of this big team
effort, just obfuscation.

Having been let down by the triathlon organisation I assumed the
fundraising platform we used would step up to the plate. But again
VirginMoneyGiving.com let us down. They had the concept of teams and I
tried - oh, how I tried - to register our full team on the website.
Just one problem is the assumption that using email for registration
is a "good thing". Well it isn't. Many young adults do not have
email addresses. If they do they do not monitor them.

If GoFundMe is worth the money then it will manage teams with either
facebook or email and even without authentication.

Just a friendly reminder: Please remember to sign your post and remember to clean up messages when you reply to them.  This is especially important if you are on digest.  This not only helps out the list owner but, it makes messages much easier to read when they arrive in our inboxes.
