[epilepsy] Re: Zonegran + kidney stones: need to know

No, I don't take any supplements. I probably don't get any calcium. I haven't had milk in years. I've tried to avoid all dairy because of casein contributing to episodes. This Zonegran really makes you lose weight, too, and I just don't eat much of anything. I like to just drink stuff and it usually is tap water with a powdered mix of some kind -- but I don't drink a lot either. I know in the E/R, for the first stone, I was specifically asked about tea. I do love tea, but I've pretty-much given that up a while ago because I just was always worried about caffeine. I never drank it all the time or every day.

The recent thing I'm supposed to do now is to drink nothing but water...'force water' it says. So, I'll take your suggestion and not take any tap water. I can imagine a scenario of seeing the urologist next month -- or before, when pain began -- after drinking gallons of tap water: "Oh my, what the heck did you do?? There are dozens of stones now!" "Nothing...just drinking lots of water like it said on this discharge paper." "Oh, silly me. I always forget that it's supposed to say 'force bottled water'."

Thanks for the thoughts and help, Ms. Joan. I do appreciate it very much. It might be just a dehydration issue, but I'll still be taking my chances and getting off of the Zonegran and trying other things.

We only use 2% of the calcium supplements and the rest is extracted through the kidneys. I found that out because I got a kidney stone also in 1996, something I NEVER want to repeat if I can help it. We traced the cause to the calcium I was getting nightly in TUMS.
