RE: [epilepsy] Am I being irrational?

Hi Rebecca

It sounds as if you need to change your doctor, I am not an
expert but I don't think the meds are helping you like they
should be.

Subject: [epilepsy] Am I being irrational?

I need help. I am taking 3 EP meds, Topamax, Felbamate,
Neorotin, and Effexor for depression and nothing seems to be
controlling my seizures. When I call my doctor and tell her
that I am having seizures daily her answer is to take an
ativan. My rational(maybe irrational, you decide) mind says
to skip all the non-working meds that give awful side
effects and just take an ativan when I have a seizure. I
took myself off the meds slowly because I am not stupid and
I felt great. I was not tired, nauseas, weak, light headed,
I could think again. I had to take 2 ativan in a whole week
which is less seizures than I was having on all the meds.
Well, anyway my husband found out what I did and got angry
and told me to call the DR and tell her. Her answer was to
get back on all the meds ASAP. Do they know our bodies and
side effects as well as we do? I wonder how many meds and
side effects she has to deal with. I am going back and forth
in my mind on what to do. Help.

Rebecca
