I (obviously) won't go into agreeing or disagreeing.
It's music and everybody has a right to his/her opinion.
I bought the CD on Saturdaymorning, July 4th.
We had no cd player in the hotelroom where me and my daughter were staying and the car was parked way to awkward to go and sit in the car and listen to it....
So we listened to it in the afternoon on our way to the concert at Werchter.
COMPASSION and BEGINNING ENDLESSLY were one song to us.... I was checking the sleeve and only then I noticed that the cd player read it was allready playing the 2nd track.
Both songs, to me, are great work. They''re the kind of song you can't wait to hear him play live, but even if P. never does, they are great to listen to and get in the groove.
FUTURE SOUL SONG
Another rendition of The Greatest Love, etcetera.... I'm not in to those songs, I'm sorry.... Maybe if I was 30 years young, it would have been a great one to get the attention of a girlfriend to be :))
STICKY LIKE GLUE
Prince starts out with a few falsetto Uh's and Ah's. That turned me off the first few times I heard it. It has that sound like on the very first Prince albums... I can hear this being played live and then having a better feel for it, but it somewhat overproduced, but I wouldn't skip it. The last minute of the song really starts to groove.
ACT OF GOD
This will or should be a classic. You can't sit still. I realize the lyrics have some special meaning too, but haven't been really digging in to that. The end has that quality where you know this could be a five minute jam.
LAVAUX
The song start directly after AOG. (Like Compassion and Beginning Endlessy) Maybe I should start listening to the lyrics, because I have no clue to what the title means.
The song definitely has potential, but the guitar and bass are too nice, if you know what I mean.
WALK IN THE SAND
Another lovesong from the skinny guy with the high voice... Not my cup of tea.
SEA OF EVERYTHING
Another straight into from the last song... and another love song....
EVERYBODY LOVES ME
Another sound like the first 2 Prince Albums feel, but it picks up rapidly.... Very poppy, but what's wrong with poppy :-)
After you have the first minute under your belt, you will start moving with it....
LAYDOWN (the hidden track)
Ol' Skool Prince.. Someone will know from which era this sound stems... But it is a gorgeous song. It goes on repeat every time I listen to the album.
If you can lay your hands on only one song from the album, you should really try to get this one :)))
Is the album better or worse or whatever?
I dunno.... I know I definitely got in to the not-love-songs right away...
Oh.... Hot Summer would fit on this album, not sure about the Cause And Effect, I think that one has another feel to it.
Oh well,
My 2010 cents :)
