According to the LAD [Law Against Discrimination], they may get fined $10,000 for the first offence. I have completed my list of what I would want and $8,000 + other requests can be made. I would specifically want them to post a non-discrimination poster on the property which, as I learned, is legally supposed to be on every property. Perhaps the Attorney General's office wouldn't like knowing this.
I am going to want them to attend some sort of epilepsy/first aid class; the man in charge of my situation said that he called even an epilepsy foundation and that this can be possible.
And I'll want them to hire a cleaning service/person since it was already acknowledged by them that they are not "qualified" to clean up materials. I guess they wouldn't even know of using protective gloves. Anyway, this would be of assistance to any present or further tenants so that they wouldn't have to go through something like I did.
Because I was even asked what I'd want to settle the matter, I imagine that their findings have ruled in my favorable and that there is 'probably cause'. This wasn't specifically said to me, so I will be letting the person know that I would want to see the findings first.
Also, I'm asking if I need to even make any statement. Apparently, I don't and it is voluntary. Then, all the evidence would be presented to a judge in a non-jury situation who would make a finding.
Someone asked if I was still where I am; I am and would be using any money I might obtain to find a more suitable place. Yet, it's true, that I want to stay here a bit longer because they were in the wrong and I don't want to give them satisfaction of removing a 'problem'.
I'm newly on Keppra as well as the old Trileptal (which I'm moving off off). Have had non-convulsive seizures since the last major episode in February. The most recent episode was just a few moment ago today and, fortunately, it didn't go further.
I'm happy that it seems that I'm doing the right thing. I do see a psychologist at times and he was glad I continued. He said that he "thought we (society) had come farther than this".

It depends somewhat on how much you pay out of pocket. I think $8000 isn't a whole lot of money considering how long you have been a tenant and all the stress and aggravation they have caused. Have you had more seizures than usual because of the added stress? I'd consider those things when deciding on the monetary amount you are going to request.
