Good stuff thanks. Let me add that most anti depressants are anti-convulsants and vice versa. At one time my sister w/ Bipolar was on same 2 meds my daughter was on for seizures. Both Valproate & Lamitrogine are used for both, check out a google search of each with the word antidepressant then try anticonvulsant. Sometimes people with depression get seizures just like some people with Autism may get seizures.
People becoming depressed getting seizures is not uncommon either because of dramatic lifestyle changes seizures can bring to someone from loss of ability to drive, friends, job, fear etc and the sedating effect of some of the meds.

Hi Maheen,
Yes, the 2 go hand in hand. Because the seizure meds slow down the nervous system, it also creates depression. Most doctors will put you on an anti-depressant

Hi to all on this group!
I am truly so sorry I haven’t been around for a long time, but now I have returned and my depression problems have all gone away! I take sodium valproate for my epilepsy/seizures plus depression and it works very well indeed. I am also now on olanzapine for depression and sleep and it truly has saved my life. I have wondered this and wanted to ask, does epilepsy and depression go together because in my case, my condition is when I am not on anti convulsants like lamotrigine or valproate, my muscles get so tight and I become depressed, my seizures get unbearable and I can’t function. Is this normal for people with a newrological disorder?
If any of you would like to be my e-mail buddy you may write me anytime. I am blind in both eyes and love making friends. It’s wonderful to be here!
Sincerely, Maheen.
My life has never been filled with so much joy and happiness. Many thanks to the Sri Lankan doctors who saved my life!
