[epilepsy] Help an Adult Learn to Read

The Starr Center is looking for volunteers who are comfortable working with people with developmental disabilities and preferably have some experience as teachers or tutors. Volunteers will work one-on-one with a participant for 15 minutes at a time. You will be able to choose your own time. They are asking for a couple of hours one day a week (or if you wish… more). Materials, lesson plans, and tutor training are provided.

The Starr Center is operated by the seniors' Resource Center and located at 16th & Yarrow, in Lakewood. It is a day program for young adults with developmental disabilities. Many of the participants could attain more independence at home and in the community if they learned basic reading or improved their reading skills.
